Ep 13: DefiningWomxn: Volume II with Liz Okoro. “The Thing Is… We’re Right.”

This week, Nadine and Kate talk to LA based entrepreneur, speaker and consultant Lizzy Okoro Palafox on the second volume of DefiningWomxn. They discuss everything under the sun around Okoro’s journey while establishing herself as a creative leader in the media. This episode unpacks.... a lot. Education and how it can affect our view of the world, how to show up for our communities, intersectional feminism, and so much more. With Okoro’s experience in business and her motivation to make a difference, this episode is a unique peek into a bigger conversation of taking steps toward justice. You can connect with Lizzy at lizzyokoro.com or @lizzyokoro. BLACK LIVES MATTER. JUSTICE FOR BREONNA. BUY BLACK. PS. You can get the deliciously cheesy, eggy, bready Khachapuri at Pizza Boy. Ep 12: The Dopest of the Dope feat Baby

On this episode of DopeWomxn, Nadine and Kate are joined by friend of the pod, Baby! They were also featured on the very first volume of DefiningWomxn, so go listen to that first if you haven’t heard it yet. Since every month is Pride Month at DWHQ, it’s never the wrong time to tell the stories of these 3 revolutionary womxn: Stormé DeLarverie, Marcia P Johnson, and Sylvia Rivera. These three kweens were integral to the Stonewall Riots of 1968. Nadine, Kate and Baby dive into their stories and how each is pivotal in the liberation movement for the LGBTQ+ community in the now so-called United States. Pride started as a protest. Pride IS a protest. The black queer and trans community was at the forefront of the riots and we have to continue to amplify their stories, show up and then do more. Ep 11: Indigenous Stories Matter

DopeWomxn go live on IG again this week where Nadine and Kate share the stories of Barbara May Cameron (Hunkpapa Lakota) and Rigoberta Menchú (Quiché Maya). These stories of indigenous women in the US and Guatemala are impressive, powerful, and galvanizing. Cameron was an unstoppable organizer and champion for Indigenous rights, LGBT rights, and women’s rights. Menchú is to this day a vigorous leader in the fight to promote and protect Indigenous rights internationally. *TRIGGER WARNING* Torture, murder, rape. PS Kate has some strange kinetic energy that seems to break the electronics around her, so audio’s a little rough again. Hashtagcovidstrugglesinproduction. Ep 10: We're Us, You're You!

On this LIVE episode of DopeWomxn, Nadine and Kate share the stories of Ava DuVernay and Tarana Burke. DopeWomxn is committed to supporting and uplifting Black stories, and these 2 ah-may-zing Black womxn are seriously kicking butt and taking names. DuVernay is an award winning director and producer; Burke is the founder of the #MeToo movement and a trailblazer in advocacy for black/indigenous/women of color… and that’s literally just scratching the surface! Follow them on their social media platforms to stay updated on their upcoming work and projects. *TRIGGER WARNING* Sexual abuse and assault.  PS Kate’s computer totally zoinked out so the audio may be a little different on this one.  Ava DuVernay: IG @ava | Twitter @ava | http://www.avaduvernay.com/  Tarana Burke: IG @taranajaneen | Twitter @TaranaBurke | https://metoomvmt.org/  Credit: Ava DuVernay on NPR | National Women's History Museum | Badass Women | Good Ol’ Wikipedia Follow us on social media! Ep 9: High as Kites in the Sky

On this episode of DopeWomxn, Nadine and Kate tell the story of Annie Cannon and Bessie Coleman; two womxn who take to the skies pushing boundaries and paving the way for astrologists and pilots alike. Kate also drinks too much coffee and Nadine handles her non-sequiturs like a dope womxn does. Correction Corner: Kate said quesadillas towards the end of this episode when she really meant tortillas. Kate is lactose intolerant and doesn’t eat quesadillas anymore :( Check out the links below that are mentioned in this episode. Ep 8: DefiningWomxn: Volume I

Introducing a new series-within-a-series (how meta) to ask and answer challenging, sometimes uncomfortable, questions around the gender spectrum. Why do pronouns matter? How has language evolved within and around the gender fluid community? While we can have the best of intentions, language is constantly changing. We all make mistakes. Sometimes it can get frustrating, but what if we said “thank you for the correction” instead of “I’m sorry” or “well that’s too confusing”? Nadine and Kate are joined by Baby (Queer as Punk) to begin unpacking an ongoing conversation with these questions and more. The trio go way back! Join them for this bite sized chat. Ep 7: O-F*****g-Kay

On this episode of DopeWomxn, Nadine and Kate start with acknowledging the killing of Ahmaud Arbery by reading a poem. After a quick break, they talk about Diane Rodriguez and Myra Bradwell. Diane worked with El Teatro Campesino & Center Theatre Group for years, including our very own Nadine! Myra Bradwell challenged the American court system and fought for womxn’s rights. Two different time periods, two different work fields, but two very dope womxn. Credit: American Bar Association | “Who Yo People Is” Podcast Recorded on May 8, 2020. Follow us on social media!
