    The Clouds of Glory: Emunah’s Protection Against Amalek’s Deception

    In Parshat Chukat, the Clouds of Glory disappear after Aharon HaKohen passes away, leaving Am Yisrael exposed to the deceptive attack of Amalek disguised as Canaanites. Rebbe Nachman explains that the clouds represent emunah (faith), which both guides and protects a person when the path is unclear. Aharon merited this protection because he embodied simcha (joy), berachah (blessing) and peace, rejoicing in Moshe Rabbeinu’s greatness rather than becoming jealous. When the aspect of Aharon weakens, Amalek enters through confusion, disguising falsehood as truth within the Heichal HaTemurot (Chamber of Exchanges). The correction is to strengthen simcha, connect to the true Tzaddikim and restore the “Clouds of Glory” through emunah.This class is based on Likutey Moharan lesson 24.     The deep spiritual mechanics behind human challenges and divine intervention by connecting Rebbe Nachman’s teachings on the "running and returning" of the mind with the kabalistic mystery of calendar intercalation (Sod Ha'Ibur). When a person enthusiastically pursues godliness (symbolized by the sun), they eventually hit a spiritual barrier and bounce back into a state of confusion or lack of perception (symbolized by the moon). This sudden fallback scrambles the mind's cognitive faculties, multiplying them to form nine hidden chambers or vessels that filter the infinite divine light into our lives, allowing us to miraculously pass daily tests without understanding how. Historically, only the greatest sages—like Rabbi Akiva or Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai—could consciously perceive these chambers or master Sod Ha'Ibur, the mathematical and mystical process of adding a thirteenth month to align the 354-day lunar year with the 365-day solar year. This 11-day disparity represents a dark "twilight zone" of trapped holy sparks, and by intercalation, the sages spiritually extend the year like a pregnancy to give these lost sparks a second chance to be reborn and rectified. Ultimately, the discourse emphasizes that both our spiritual highs and frustrating setbacks are intentionally paired to create the necessary harmony and vessels for receiving divine light.     Korach - Exchanging Strife for Joy

    In Parshat Korach, Korach’s rebellion against Aharon reveals the danger of lacking simcha (joy) and being unable to accept one’s portion. The Zohar teaches that Korach wanted to exchange left and right—placing the Levi’im (Levites), associated with gevurah (strength/restraint), in the place of the Kohanim (priests), associated with chesed (kindness) and berachah (blessing). Rebbe Nachman explains that this type of exchange comes from the Heichal HaTemurot (Chamber of Exchanges), where confusion makes jealousy and strife look like righteousness. Aharon, by contrast, merited the Kehunah (priesthood) because of his joy in Moshe’s greatness, showing that simcha activates berachah and opens the way to the Keter and Hashem’s Infinite Light. The lesson is to choose the path of Aharon—peace, humility and joy in serving Hashem—rather than the path of Korach, where jealousy and dissatisfaction lead to machloket (strife).
