    The Law of Lot

    In Parshat Vayeira, Lot is appointed a judge in Sodom, welcomes the visiting angels into his home and serves them matzot. Why does the Torah emphasize these details about a man who chose to live among the wicked? Lot was destined to become an ancestor of David HaMelech and ultimately Mashiach, so his life had to contain some connection to Halachah and Chesed. His judgeship reflects knowledge of law, his hospitality reflects the kindness learned from Avraham and the matzot symbolize clarified Halachic rulings. David would bring these qualities together, combining compassionate Halachah with the thanksgiving and prayer expressed in Tehillim. Rebbe Nachman teaches that learning Halachah and giving thanks to Hashem work together to rectify the spiritual damage caused by Adam’s sin and prepare the world for its ultimate tikkun.     Unity, Peace and Charity

    The Praise of Halakha

    This class is based on Likutey Moharan II, Lesson 2:In Parshat Lekh Lekha, Avraham and Sarah descend into Egypt, where Sarah’s extraordinary beauty attracts the attention of Pharaoh’s ministers. Their journey was part of a deeper mission to extract holy sparks trapped in Egypt and begin rectifying the spiritual damage caused by Adam and Chava eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Rebbe Nachman teaches that learning Halachah and giving thanks to Hashem work together to separate good from evil, purify the spiritual life force of mankind and lead to the perfection of holy speech. Sarah represents the beauty of Lashon HaKodesh, while Pharaoh and Mitzrayim represent the forces that seek to suppress that holiness.     Drawing the Joy and Light of Shabbat Onto the Six Workdays

    This discourse is based on Likutey Moharan II lesson 2To hold onto the Shabbos experience throughtout the week, through the mitzot, and through learning the halachot is a tall order. In which ever way one can constantly trigger one's connection, do it. Rabbi Nosson advises, likely through the Rebbe Nachman's teachings, to keep the joy of Shabbos alive through the mitzvot, through the halacha. I suppose the connection to plowing with diverse animals is the halacha he was alluding to. Work, if disconnected from "shabbos" becomes a drag, a downer. Shabbos, when there is no "work", allows for joy to be reached easier.
