What About Him? Comparison, Suffering & Following Jesus | Acts 12

Have you ever looked at someone else's life and asked, "God, why them and not me?" Or felt blessed and wondered, "Why me?" In this message from our series in the book of Acts, Pastor Nick Wyss teaches through Acts 12. James and Peter were both apostles, and both were close to Jesus, but their stories ended very differently. James was killed by King Herod, and Peter was freed from prison by an angel. Looking at John 21, where Peter asks Jesus, "What about this man?", we hear Jesus's answer to our own comparisons: "What is that to you? You follow me." In this message: • Comparison is the thief of joy, and God's plan for you is not measured against anyone else's • Faithfulness doesn't guarantee smooth sailing. Sometimes God delivers us from hardship, sometimes He carries us through it, and sometimes He takes us home • Peter's rescue doesn't mean James lacked faith. The same God was at work in both stories • Vengeance belongs to the Lord (Romans 12:19). We follow Jesus and leave the results to Him • Persecution can't stop the church: "But the word of God increased and multiplied" (Acts 12:24) Scripture: Acts 12:1–24 · John 21:18–22 · Romans 12:19 · Philippians 4 Join us in person! Fervent Church meets every Sunday at 9:30 AM at Nadine Johnson Elementary School, 480 Carl Stern Dr, Hutto, TX. 🌐 Website: https://fervent.church 🔗 All our links: https://linktr.ee/Theferventchurch Subscribe so you never miss a message, and share this episode with someone who needs the reminder that God knows, God is good, and our job is to follow Him.

    Don’t Stop on Six | 6-Year Anniversary

Don’t give up on God. Get up and take another lap. As Fervent Church celebrates six years, Pastor Nick teaches from Joshua 6 and the story of Israel at Jericho. For six days they walked in obedience without seeing the walls move—but God wasn’t finished yet. Maybe you’ve been praying, trusting, serving, or believing and you still haven’t seen the breakthrough. Maybe you’ve grown tired and stopped walking altogether. Or maybe you’ve never taken that first step of following Jesus. Wherever you are today, the encouragement is the same: don’t stop on six. God is faithful. Keep trusting Him. Keep walking in obedience. And when you feel like sitting on the sidelines, get your shoes back on and take another lap. As Fervent enters Year 7, we’re thankful for everything God has done—and believing there is still more ahead. We’re going to keep following Jesus, keep moving forward, and do it together. Don’t stop on six. Don’t give up on God. Take another lap. Scripture: Joshua 1–6

From the Archives: The Fervent Farewell | February 2020

Before Fervent Church ever held a Sunday service, before we moved to Texas, and before we knew what the next six years would hold, we gathered with family and friends in Tucson for one final night together. This message was recorded at our Fervent Farewell in February 2020 as we shared the vision God had placed on our hearts to plant a church so that people may know Jesus. Listening back six years later is pretty incredible. We talked about faith when you can’t see what’s on the other side. We talked about taking another lap when nothing seems to be happening. We talked about not giving up, trusting God with what comes next, and even announced our planned launch date: September 20, 2020. Six years later, as Fervent Church prepares to celebrate our anniversary on September 20, we’re opening the archives and sharing the message that helped send us out. We had no idea what the next six years would look like. God did. And He’s been faithful every step of the way.

God Put You There | Scattered for a Reason | Acts 11:19–30

What if where you are right now isn’t an accident? In Acts 11:19–30, persecution scattered the early believers far from home—but what looked like disruption became an opportunity for the gospel to spread. As ordinary believers faithfully shared Jesus, the church in Antioch was born. They planted and watered, but God brought the growth. In this message, Pastor Sam challenges us to recognize the ministry God has already placed in front of us. Whether it’s your workplace, neighborhood, family, school, or community, you have opportunities to point people to Jesus. Our responsibility isn’t to control the results. It’s to be faithful with what God has entrusted to us. You may be planting a seed. You may be watering one someone else planted. Either way, God is the One who makes it grow. Are You Standing in God’s Way? | Don’t Stand in the Way | Acts 11

Could your preferences, traditions, or comfort actually be getting in the way of what God wants to do? In Acts 11, Peter is criticized for taking the gospel to the Gentiles—but his response is simple: if God gave them the same gift, “who was I that I could stand in God’s way?” In this message, we look at what happens when God challenges our assumptions, calls us outside our comfort zones, and asks us to reach people we may have already written off. Jesus is for everyone. Our job is to go, love people well, share the gospel, and let God produce the fruit. 📖 Scripture: Acts 11:1–18 #Acts11 #Sermon #BibleTeaching #Jesus #Gospel #ChristianSermon #FerventChurch

No One Is Too Far Gone | Even Them | Acts 10:1-48

Who have you decided is too far gone for Jesus? In Acts 10, God challenges Peter’s assumptions and breaks down the barriers between Jews and Gentiles. Through the story of Peter and Cornelius, we see a powerful truth: the gospel isn't reserved for people who look, think, or live like us. Jesus came for everyone—even them. In this message, discover what Acts 10 teaches about reaching the unlikely, overcoming religious pride, sharing the gospel, and being available for God to use you. God Can Use You Before You Feel Ready | Acts 9:32-43

Are you waiting until you feel “ready” before letting God use you?  In Acts 9:32–43, Peter shows us that God isn't looking for perfect people with all the right abilities, He’s looking for people who are available. Through the healing of Aeneas and the raising of Tabitha, we see what can happen when ordinary believers step out in obedience, depend on Jesus, and say, “Here I am, Lord.” 📖 Scripture: Acts 9:32–43

Before God Uses You, He Builds You

God can call you in a moment—but becoming who He has called you to be takes time. In Acts 9:19–31, Saul has surrendered his life to Jesus and immediately begins telling others about Him. But the Apostle Paul we know today wasn't formed overnight. His journey included years of growth, testing, rejection, opposition, faithfulness, and obedience. In this message, Pastor Nick looks at Saul's early walk with Jesus and reminds us that God may be doing more in you right now than through you. Maybe you're wondering why you're not further along. Maybe you feel like God has called you to something, but nothing seems to be happening. Or maybe you think you need to know more, grow more, or have everything together before God can use you. You don't. God can use what you know today while continuing to shape who you're becoming tomorrow. The trials, waiting, hidden seasons, small acts of obedience, and everyday faithfulness aren't wasted. God is building something in you. 📖 Scripture: Acts 9:19–31 If this message encouraged or challenged you, share it with someone who needs to hear it and subscribe for more biblical teaching each week.
