On today's episode, I give my thought on how every four years, our country has a referendum on what's most important to the people. I wish we focused on keeping humans moving forward and expanding civilization to different planets and galaxies. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening in the near future. I also discuss the latest Starship launch, which saw a fascinating display of engineering and technology converge to a rocket being caught in the air. I go on to discuss the upcoming test of Starship and what this means for our future plans to advance to Mars and beyond. Finally, I discuss the Europa Clipper mission from NASA. Why is it important to venture out to a moon that orbits Jupiter? It is because there may be signs of life on this moon. If not now, maybe there once was. Either way, it is a question worth getting the answer to. What were the capabilities of the Greeks and Egyptians 2000 years ago? Did they have technology that provided detailed information on the universe? On today's podcast, I discuss the Antikythera, an Ancient Greek hand-powered model of the Solar System that is also the oldest known example of an analogue computer. I discuss the differences between whaat made this model very impressive for the time, but to be aware of the limitations of the device, originally found on a shipwreck. On today's podcast, I discuss the fascinating discovery of quasars at one of the earliest times in our universe. For the first time, on accident, a pair of quasars in a cosmic dance with each other were observed at a time just 900 million years after the Big Bang. First off, what is a quasar? According to esahubble.org : Quasars are a subclass of active galactic nuclei (AGNs), extremely luminous galactic cores where gas and dust falling into a supermassive black hole emit electromagnetic radiation across the entire electromagnetic spectrum. The gas and dust become luminous as a result of the extreme gravitational and frictional forces exerted on them as they fall into the black hole. Quasars are amongst the most luminous objects in the known Universe, typically emitting thousands of times more light than the entire Milky Way. Yoshiki Matsuoka, an astronomer at Ehime University in Japan, Wass the person who identified for the first time a pair of quasars orbiting each other. Their size and location is indicative that the two quasars are going to, if they haven't already, collide into a much larger and more powerful black hole. By studying this pair of quasars billions of light years away, it unlocks more information on how our universe formed at one of its earliest stages. I also take a moment to use this discovery as an example of why I find it so important to understand the formation of our universe. It's important to think about how we came to be and literally everyone has a different answer. Finally, I discuss the 2024 NBA Champions Boston Celtics. After a relatively easy path to the Finals, the Celtics were able to beat the Dallas Mavericks in 5 games. My major takeaway from the entire 2024 playoffs is that it is more important to have good role players and great chemistry rather than a group of star players. Some great examples of this is the OKC Thunder or the Minnesota Timberwolves, who both could have beaten a team like the Phoenix Suns (Timberwolves did sweep them in Round 1). The Celtics had all fo the above and that's ultimately why they were able to beat a Mavericks team. 🧠 In our first story, we're diving into the realm of neuroscience with the groundbreaking news of the first Neuralink brain chip implant in a human. This incredible technology has granted individuals the ability to wield telekinetic powers, demonstrated through feats like playing chess or dominating computer games like Civilization 6. However, amidst the awe-inspiring potential of such advancements, questions arise about how we can effectively manage this technology and its implications for society. 🌌 Shifting our focus to the cosmos, I'm excited to share the latest triumphs of SpaceX's Starship program. With the successful completion of its third flight test, including a mesmerizing reentry captured on video, the Starship project inches closer to its goal of interplanetary travel. As we anticipate more flights in the future, we can't help but envision this as a significant stride toward humanity's journey beyond Earth. 🌑 On April 8th, a total solar eclipse will grace the skies, with prime viewing spots in Northern New York. Join me as I explore the significance of this rare event, shedding light on what exactly a solar eclipse entails and how you can witness it firsthand. Particularly poignant is the reminder that for many in the older generation, this eclipse may mark a once-in-a-lifetime experience, making it all the more essential to seize the moment. I also discuss another cosmic event that will be able to be seen with he naked eye: an exploding star. I discuss where to find it in the night sky and all the details on how to view it. 🏀 Last but not least, let's talk hoops! With the NBA season heating up, speculation runs rampant on who will emerge victorious in the quest for the championship title.
