    Miami is a Financial Mistake

    Send us Fan Mail Marriage is a beautiful partnership between two people who love each other very much and would occasionally like the other person to stop making decisions. This week on Super Familiar with the Wilsons, we’re wandering through the strange middle years, where brains change the rules without updating the manual, hormones begin operating as an independent government, and a perfectly ordinary conversation can suddenly require NATO intervention. We’ve also been traveling, which means spending alarming amounts of money to experience things we could never have predicted would make us sad, angry, confused, or philosophical. There are questions of ethics. Questions of privacy. Questions of whether civilization was a mistake. And, inevitably, an incident involving a crosswalk. Back home, we confront one of adulthood’s most relentless enemies: having to decide what to eat again. Apparently yesterday’s dinner did not permanently solve food. So we consider radical solutions to decision fatigue, unnecessary choices, daily routines, and the possibility that the secret to inner peace may simply be owning several identical shirts. Plus, we travel the globe without leaving our chairs, investigate some deeply peculiar back-to-school traditions, hear from Refined Gay Jeff, and continue our lifelong project of trying to become functional adults several decades after the deadline. It’s an episode about marriage, ADHD, perimenopause, parenting, decision fatigue, travel, routines, animals, food, tiny frustrations, and the increasingly suspicious amount of administrative work required simply to remain alive.     Send us Fan Mail We invited Gavin from Be There With Belson over to talk about the World Cup, and for a few glorious minutes we actually stayed on topic. We get into soccer gatekeeping, why everyone becomes an elite tactical genius every four years, whether FIFA deserves your trust, and the surprisingly wholesome side of a tournament that somehow convinces billions of strangers to care about the same thing at the same time. Then the conversation wanders off like a toddler in the ALDI center aisle. We end up discussing modern dating, self-worth, perimenopause, medieval beer, coffee, conspiracy theories, and when your friends should have veto power over your dating profile.
