Then your world is turned upside down when on a family holiday you are told you have a sister. This is a shock, but not entirely an unwelcome one, so you start to do a search with a DNA company.... and yes you do find your sister, but not the one you set out to find. Our family were very lucky, we found each other, and all our family get on way better than any of our expectations, remembering how much a find such as this can change family dynamics such as having new cousins, nieces & nephews. Today I’ll be joining by author and NJC contributor Kaylie Kay as we chat to Karen McLeod about her new book 'Lifting Off'. Karen has had some excellent reviews in the national media regarding her book, so Not Just Crew wanted to dip a little bit deeper about the book and her background as cabin crew for a long haul airline in the 1990s. Karen tells us about her early years in the airlines and how it shaped her future self.     Thank you so much for tuning into this episode of Not Just Crew. Menopause is sill on of the biggest items in our postbag. The time has gone when this subject was only talked about with whispers, rumours and old wives tales and known as the ‘Change’ In the modern workplace and especially the UK flying industry (We would love to hear of your experiences in other cultures and nations) where airlines are really starting to take this subject seriously and offering support. Even so many woman feel as if they don’t have the support the need, and still have many questions they feel have been left unanswered. On the 23rd July 2024 NJC Presenters (Award winning Voice Artist) Ally Murphy and Dr Jen Parker set out to make a show dedicated to menopause and asked crew any questions They had. The response was very positive and on the 19th August 2024 we recorded the show and we had to select just a few of the questions with the time frame we had. We really wanted this to be a live show, but with Ally busy filming with a minus eight hour time difference from Seattle, and Jen with working full time in her new career as a doctor we had limited time to get these two amazing ladies together.     From Crew to Dr Jen Parker.

    This is the interview I have wanted to record for some time. I first met Dr Jen Parker as cabin crew, and always thought she had so much energy and was great fun to be around. She was also the first Airsupport Girl (That's another story) . I flew with her a few years later when she casually announced to me that she was going to become a doctor. I knew Jen was bright and thought perhaps she she was studying for a PHD, but I should have remembered we are talking Jen here and she meant the real deal..... A medical doctor. It never once occurred to me that she wouldn't achieve it, and here we are six years later and she has achieved her goal, and what a goal/dream.... She is now Dr Jen Parker. We are so proud of her. Jen was also one of my first interviews when Not Just Crew started in 2020 as a way to inspire crew to help them realise they have the most wonderful transferable skills.
