How to Stop Negative Self-Talk in Midlife| Dear What’s Next Letter

Welcome to She Shift, where midlife women welcome to rediscover themselves, reignite their passions, and rise boldly into what’s next. I’m your host, Pamela Stone, your midlife reinventor. This week’s episode is for every woman who’s ever swallowed her pain, convinced herself she’s just being dramatic, and stayed silent because others “have it worse.” If you’ve ever tucked your struggles away and called it strength, it’s time to unlearn that habit. Pamela Stone delivers a heartfelt letter to women who talk themselves out of the healing they truly deserve. She reminds us that pain is not a competition, urges us to stop minimizing what hurts, and calls out the myth that self-abandonment is strength. Healing starts with honesty—naming the hurt, even for just five minutes, and refusing to shrink from your own truth. If you’re unsure about your next chapter or feel alone carrying invisible burdens, this episode is your invitation to honor your feelings and take the first step toward what’s truly next. Write back: What's one hurt you've been minimizing? Name it. Then send it to us at sheshiftpodcast@gmail.com, or keep it for yourself. Either way, it counts. You don't have to carry it silently anymore. Your truth is welcome here. Dear What's Next Letter: Why Midlife Women Should Stop Playing Small

Welcome to She Shift, the podcast for midlife women who are ready to rediscover themselves, reignite their passions, and step boldly into their next chapter. In today's episode, Pamela Stone speaks directly to the woman who has spent years making herself smaller for others' comfort. Starting from a candid moment in a fitting room and moving to the unspoken rules women over 45 are told to follow, Pamela explores how we've learned to disappear, not just in our wardrobes but in our ambitions, opinions, and laughter. If you've felt that whisper of "there has to be more," this letter is your permission to stop shrinking and start taking up space, in your closet and in your life.   1.Identify where you shrink. Notice how you make yourself small at home, at work, or in your self-image. Awareness is the first step to change. 2.Try one bold move. Wear the bright color, speak up in the meeting, or reclaim a long-held dream. One act of courage spills over into every area of your life. 3.Redefine your worth. Wanting more isn't selfish. It's a sign of growth. You deserve to take up space. You were never meant to fit. You were meant to rise. Inside 'I Still Rise' — At the Table's Annual Survivor Fashion Show

Table Talk Tuesday is back. And it's back with a room full of women who decided cancer would not get the final word. In this episode, I sit down with the leadership and models of At The Table, a Columbus, Ohio nonprofit that supports, educates, and empowers women cancer survivors — with a specific focus on African American women. We talk about their annual signature benefit, the Still I Rise Survivor Fashion Show, celebrating its 9th year on September 27 at 3:00 PM at Columbus Academy. Why a fashion show? Because cancer takes more than your health. It takes your confidence. Treatment changes your body. Chemo changes your hair. You stop recognizing the woman in the mirror. The runway gives that back. One model walked into the casting call topless after losing both expanders — and found her community in that room. This one gets real. Survivors share their diagnoses, their first time claiming the word "survivor," and what it means to walk a runway and say I am still here, I am still beautiful, my story is still being written. What we cover  • Why At The Table chose fashion as the platform for survivor advocacy  • How confidence gets rebuilt after cancer treatment — and why that matters beyond one event  • The sisterhood that forms at casting calls and rehearsals  • Why men belong in this conversation too (men get breast cancer, and families carry the weight)  • What happens after the runway: support groups, education, resources, scholarship  • The Denise Pittman Scholarship and the 9th Community Service Excellence Award  • Event details: lavender and gold, surprises at the door, why you should arrive on time If this episode moved you, do three things. Get your ticket at attrinc.org before Friday. Share this with a woman who needs to hear that her story is still being written. And subscribe to Table Talk Tuesday so you don't miss the next community leader at this table. Dear What’s Next Letter: The House is Quiet: Now What

Hi Midlife Friend, Dear What’s Next, Nobody warned you about this silence. Not the peaceful quiet you daydreamed about in the middle of the chaos. The quiet that comes after the last car pulls out of the driveway. After the last box is loaded. After the door closes and you’re standing in a house that is suddenly, impossibly still. The house is quiet. And instead of peace, what you feel is somewhere between grief and panic. In this week’s Dear What’s Next letter, Pamela Stone speaks directly to the woman in the empty room — the mom who spent two or three decades building an identity around noise, and now can’t stop asking now what? In this letter: • Why empty nest grief doesn’t make you ungrateful — and why “now what?” is the most honest question you’ve asked in twenty years • How your identity got built around the schedule, the carpools, the meals planned around other people’s hunger • The truth about guilt: loving them and mourning the role are not opposites • Why the empty room is an opening, not an ending • The interests you shelved — the business idea, the art, the travel, the unfinished degree — and why she never left • One small practice for this week: sit in the quiet without filling it • The question to carry into your weekend (don’t answer it too fast) If you’re navigating empty nest syndrome, a midlife identity shift, or the strange grief of a chapter ending well — this letter is for you. Dear What’s Next... the house is quiet, but I am not done. Dear What’s Next Letter: Why Regret Outlast Fear: Every Time

As women navigating the exciting (and sometimes daunting) "what's next," we often find fear shouting at us loud, unrelenting, immediate. But, as Pamela Stone reminds us, while fear is temporary, regret settles in, quiet and enduring, growing heavier each year we wait. If you've been holding back on launching that business, going back to school, writing your book, or simply stepping into your own new chapter—this is your sign to start. 3 Key Takeaways for You: Fear fades, regret remains: Fear screams in the moment, but once you take action, it quiets. Regret sticks with you every year you postpone your dream. Starting is the win: Success isn't always the final outcome—sometimes, the simple act of choosing yourself and taking the first step is a victory in itself. One small action is all it takes: You don't need a full reinvention overnight. Send the email, make the call, write that paragraph, or sign up for the class—just start. Your next chapter isn't waiting for you to be fear-free. It's asking you to begin anyway. --- Stay Connected 🎧 Follow She Shift wherever you listen to podcasts. 📺 Watch on YouTube: @SheShiftTV 📖 Read VM Magazine: https://fliphtml5.com/bookcase/rpsci/ Share this episode with a woman ready to discover what's next. Dear What’s Next Letter: Stop Waiting for Permission: The Conversation That Changes Everything

Welcome to an episode created for every woman who feels stuck, watching the years roll by and whispering, "There has to be more than this." The conversation focused on reclaiming your next chapter when change—like AI or layoffs—takes the decision out of your hands. A key theme that emerged was the power of embracing forced transitions not as setbacks, but as opportunities to finally pivot toward your own dreams and rediscover your superpower. The discussion explored how waiting for permission holds us back, and why the time is now, not someday. 3 Key Takeaways You Can Act On Today Stop Waiting: The permission slip you're looking for? It's already yours. Don't let another year pass while you wait for "the right time." Own Your Experience: Your past and all you've built are not a liability—they're your superpower. Seek Support & Community: Reach out, share your story, and connect with others walking the same reinvention journey. You are not alone.
