    Why it's a Surprisngly Good Time to Start a Business

    Most of us are in the mode of staying home right now and this might be leaving you worried, scared and anxious. We understand! You may have even lost your job and things are probably feeling up in the air to some extent. These are things that almost all of us are experiencing, as the economy affects us all. Despite the slowing down of the economy and people staying home, there is still a need for consumables and services. Just because the ways that the things that are being bought and consumed have shifted does not mean the need is not there.     How to Discover the Right Business to Start

    Every person on the planet has a set of life experiences the combination of which are totally unique to them. One exciting implication of this is that these idiosyncratic traits can be leveraged toward starting an equally unique business! That’s exactly what we will be talking about in today’s episode: how to find the right business for you – exclusively you – to start. Today we will all be purposefully catching a severe case of special snowflake syndrome, except the good kind! In our session, we lay out three exercises that you can follow along with intended to help you find the business that nobody else would be better suited to start than you. The first is how to discover your hidden expertise using life experiences, unique traits, and technical skills. Next, we show you how to make your potential competitors irrelevant by determining the intersection between your unique traits and their provision of value to a market. Our last exercise will be a guide on how to optimize the business you have come up with for growth and profitability by using what we call the profit grid.     The 8 Essential Characteristics of an Entrepreneur

    Nowadays there is a lot of talk about how everybody can be an entrepreneur, but the truth is that there are some essential characteristics that separate the good ones from the not so good! So, we thought it would be a great idea to share what we believe to be the eight most essential characteristics that amazing entrepreneurs should have. Of course, even the great ones don’t possess each and every one of these, and so it’s OK if you don’t either. Not possessing one presents an opportunity to grow, or a great moment to find a partner! In our discussion, we speak to the characteristics of optimism, commitment to lifelong learning, having a high risk tolerance and being able to separate ego from success and failure. Our key characteristics also include passion, decisiveness, being future-focussed and able to analyze the trends, and finally, having the flexibility to change with one’s environment. Remember, it takes a special person to fully encapsulate all the above qualities, so don’t feel like you have to exactly match all of them. The reality though is every entrepreneur is going to be faced with the need to access at least a little bit of all these, so make sure you take a listen and find out how you measure up!
