A Reader's History of Science Fiction

Alex Howe’s “A Reader’s History of Science Fiction” is a wonderfully informed introduction to the genre and its sub genres. Readers new to science fiction who want to see what it’s all about will find lots of information here to get them started, especially with the recommendations of foundational books in the various sub genres. Others who are familiar with some of the sci fi sub genres, but who want to check out others, can explore them here before purchasing books to read. For those who are knowledgeable about science fiction, the podcasts are great for reviewing the topic and for great listening. Educators will find this series insightful and helpful, too, especially those who teach dystopian novels. This podcast series will help the reader move on to other science fiction surveys and histories such as David Seed’s “Science Fiction: A Very Short Introduction,” Adam Roberts’s “The History of Science Fiction, 2nd ed.,” and Sherryl Vint’s (yes, two “Rs!”) “Science Fiction.”
