The Ghosts of Pendle Hill - Witches, Lancaster Castle & England's Most Haunted Landscape

For more than four hundred years, the shadow of Pendle Hill has loomed over one of the most infamous episodes in British history. In 1612, a series of accusations led to the trial and execution of ten people accused of witchcraft. Their names became forever linked with Pendle, Lancaster Castle and the surrounding Lancashire countryside. Yet while the history is well documented, the stories did not end at the gallows. In this episode of Ghost Tales by the Fireside, we explore the haunted legacy of the Pendle Witches, from the eerie churchyard of Newchurch and the mystery of the lost Malkin Tower, to reports of a ghostly woman wandering the slopes of Pendle Hill. We also journey inside Lancaster Castle, where visitors continue to report apparitions, strange voices, unexplained cold spots and encounters with figures said to walk the ancient prison cells. Are these simply legends that have grown around a tragic chapter of history, or has Pendle become one of Britain's truly haunted landscapes? Sit back, relax, and join me by the fireside as we explore the ghosts, folklore and history of Pendle Hill. Borley Rectory: England's Most Haunted House - The Truth Behind the Legend

Borley Rectory has been called England's most haunted house for nearly a century. Stories of a ghostly nun, phantom footsteps, mysterious messages appearing on walls, ringing bells, poltergeist activity and unexplained apparitions transformed a quiet Essex rectory into the most famous paranormal case in British history. But how much of the story was real? In this extended episode of Ghost Tales by the Fireside, we explore the complete history of Borley Rectory, from its construction in the 1860s and the experiences reported by the Bull family, through the investigations of renowned paranormal researcher Harry Price, to the later controversies that challenged many of the claims. Drawing on contemporary accounts, witness statements, newspaper reports, psychical research records and modern historical investigations, this episode examines both the haunting and the investigation itself. Was Borley Rectory genuinely haunted? Or did England's greatest ghost story grow through folklore, media attention and decades of retelling? This episode was a challenge to record. I've been suffering badly with hayfever while putting it together, so please forgive any rough edges that might have slipped through. While recording, something unusual also happened. After stopping for a short break, I returned and continued recording several sections before discovering that my microphone had somehow been switched off and disconnected. I was the only person in the room. Even stranger, while recording one section of the episode, a faint giggling sound was captured on the microphone. I've left the recording in the episode exactly as it was captured so you can decide for yourself what you're hearing. Join me beside the fireside as we uncover one of the most debated mysteries in paranormal history. In this episode of Ghost Tales by the Fireside, we explore the history of the Goodwin Sands, from devastating shipwrecks and the Great Storm of 1703 to the enduring legend of the Lady Lovibond, Britain's most famous ghost ship. According to folklore, the doomed vessel returns every fifty years to repeat its final voyage across the sands, though historians have never found evidence proving the ship ever existed.
