Concerning Aus music report shows listenership decline, & most Australians support copyright protections against AI | Music News

Things get pretty bleak in this one, so apologies, but stick with us if you can. We talk about two new reports. The first is largely positive, and shows that four in five Australians want legislated copyright protections against AI companies. We go through the data, and reveal some data points we found interesting. We then move onto another report, which shows that Australian's made more music last finanical year (yay), but very concerningly, most music (91%) consumed in Australia is created overseas. Adding to the concern, Aus music listenership has declined by over 35% in the last five years. YIKES! Thanks for listening! Be sure to subscribe for more content. Fathom talk breaking an insane world record, new music and what comes next

In a first for Homebrewed, we're joined in this one by a Guiness World Record breaking band! Fathom are hot off successfully breaking the world record for the most concerts performed in 12 hours (multiple cities). The Sydney dream rock duo managed 9 gigs in as many cities in only 12 hours. Naturally, we spend a huge part of this conversation speaking all about that insane world record triumph, so prepare to have all of those questions answered. We also dig into Fathom's origins as a band, why a world record tilt is a genius move in an attention economy, their new music and a bunch more. Fathom have also been raising money for mental health charity Beyond Blue as part of their world record attempt. The link to donate can be found here. Thanks for listening! Artists dismayed as copyright law changes back on the table | Music News

The news doesn't sleep, so we're coming to you with another Music News this week as copyright and AI return to the headlines. We first brought you revelations that copyright law could be changing to accomodate AI companies almost a year ago. Since that story first broke, it has felt like we've been playing an incredibly frustrating a game of whack-a-mole. Rumours would swirl, creatives would mobilise, Government would reassure. Rinse and repeat. We once again find ourselves at the beginning of this cycle. Though this time it's looking far more certain that change is coming for Australian copyright law. Behemoth AI multinationals like OpenAi and Anthropic have continued to pressure the federal government to make copyright law changes in their favour. A recent interview with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese offered little reassurance that his government is resisting that pressure. In this episode, we break down the latest developments in this saga. You'll hear the timeline to now, the leaked federal government documents that have Aussie creatives mobilising again, and the PM's barely reassuring response to renewed concerns around copyright. Pill testing made permanent, a world record attempt, APRA's extension, & more | Music News

Well it's a helluva pod, this one! We talk firstly about the news that the ACCC has granted APRA a five-year extension, and why that might be a problem. We then go deep into the pill testing debate, sparked by news that NSW will see 15 festivals with pill testing from October. We talk about why it's good, and think about what could be different, has the government not felt the need for a (yet another) summit and inquiry. We then shift out attention to a world record attempt last weekend by Sydney band Fathom. They travelled from Singleton to Canberra, playing nine shows in 12 hours, and raised more than $2,000 for Beyond Blue during the process. We finish by updating a story from two years ago, which is related to the F1 Melbourne Grand Prix cancellation in 2020, why Robbie Williams is involved, and why we might have a bonus interview with [REDACTED] coming exclusively to our Patreons if we can find the audio.
