He was a Senior Research Scientist and leader of the advanced materials research area of Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) before. His major research area is the synthesis of nanomaterials for industrial, environmental, and medical applications using cheap raw materials including naturally occurring minerals such as dolomite, calcite, apatite, ilmenite, monazite, iron-bearing minerals, zircon, and graphite. So far, he has developed many novel simple, and economical techniques to synthesize nanomaterials for various applications. He is also working on the fabrication of nano-architectured super-hydrophobic and oil-repellent surfaces.

Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. We discuss current research that is undertaken at the institute such as stellar seismology, exoplanets, solar radio burst observations, etc., and how the institute plays a role in the popularization of astronomy among school students and the public. Also, we focus on how the school and university students can collaborate with ACCIMT to carry out astronomy related projects.

He is a herpetologist specialized in crocodiles and sea snakes. He is the host of the  @National Geographic series "Snakes" and contributes to many TV programs. His youtube channel @Zootopica discusses reptiles and also sheds light on myths and misconceptions about animals in Sri Lankan society. He also manages a nature expedition company "Aaranya" that enables people to join his field works carried out in many countries.
