Manila Underground is always a fun challenge to create and keeps me sharp when it comes to bass music.     I had a few cool ideas in mind this morning while putting together this week’s episode of Mixtape Monday. To kick things off, I opened with two recent Super Bowl halftime performers — Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar — along with Paul Oakenfold’s remix of ‘Massive’ by Drake to set the tone.  Former Solly’s Podcast guest Mister Gray also brings the heat with a standout edit of Fred Again..’s ‘Turn On the Lights,’ adding another layer of energy to the mix.  As I get ready for spring with upcoming shows across Portland, Seattle, and Indianapolis, I’m also excited to announce that we’ll have a special guest for Mixtape Monday’s 150th episode on March 2nd.     Feeling extra groovy tonight after Bad Bunny’s halftime performance and watching the Seahawks bring home another Lombardi trophy to the PNW. This week’s Sunday Vibes leans into that laid-back energy, blending soulful house with touches of disco. As a teenager, I had a deep fascination with disco that eventually evolved into my love for house music. I was born in 1979 — right as disco was fading and house music was being born. They say house music is disco’s revenge, and in many ways, that still feels true.  So for this mix, I pulled in a few tracks I’ve been rinsing in my Solly’s Proper House series and during my sets at Proper at The Patron Saint (you can catch those on upcoming episodes of Mixcloud Essentials).     We return to some familiar themes on this week’s episode of The Kat in the Trap. Cardi B’s ‘Err Time’ remix by DJ Bizzon blended with Jay-Z’s ‘Stick to the Script’ sets the tone, alongside T.I.’s new heat, ‘Let ’Em Know.’ The closing stretch was especially fun, with Chlöe and Halle’s ‘Do It’ featuring Doja Cat, followed by ‘Swan Song’ and a final chef’s kiss of drum & bass to wrap things up.  This series is always a joy to mix — it takes me back to the strip club days while continuing to reflect Kat’s personality and musical taste.
