    Take a look at what Shema is----a little different than what most Christians may think.  Discuss the Environment of Knowing and Confessing Episode image from www.torahsisters.com  Questions to get to know your child: (I do not know where I originally got this list from, but it was somewhere online) What made you smile today? Can you tell me an example of kindness you saw/showed? Was there an example of unkindness? How did you respond? Does everyone have a friend at recess? What was the book about that your teacher read? What’s the word of the week? Did anyone do anything silly to make you laugh? Did anyone cry? What did you do that was creative? What is the most popular game at recess? What was the best thing that happened today? Did you help anyone today? Did you tell anyone “thank you?” Who did you sit with at lunch? What made you laugh? Did you learn something you didn’t understand? Who inspired you today? What was the peak and the pit? What was your least favorite part of the day? Was anyone in your class gone today? Did you ever feel unsafe? What is something you heard that surprised you? What is something you saw that made you think? Who did you play with today? Tell me something you know today that you didn’t know yesterday. What is something that challenged you? How did someone fill your bucket today? Whose bucket did you fill? Did you like your lunch? Rate your day on a scale from 1-10. Did anyone get in trouble today? How were you brave today? What questions did you ask at school today? Tell us your top two things from the day (before you can be excused from the dinner table!). What are you looking forward to tomorrow? What are you reading? What was the hardest rule to follow today? Teach me something I don’t know. If you could change one thing about your day, what would it be? (For older kids):  Do you feel prepared for your history test?” or, “Is there anything on your mind that you’d like to talk about?” (In my opinion, the key is not only the way a question is phrased, but responding in a supportive way.) Who did you share your snacks with at lunch? What made your teacher smile? What made her frown? What kind of person were you today? What made you feel happy? What made you feel proud? What made you feel loved? Did you learn any new words today? What was the hardest rule to follow today? If you could switch seats with anyone in class, who would it be? And why? What is your least favorite part of the school building? And favorite? If you switched places with your teacher tomorrow, what would you teach the class?

    Worship at Home Guide for May 17 Kindness Questions for you and your kids:  What does kindness look like? Sound like? Feel like? Look to allow someone to go ahead of you. Look for someone who could benefit from kind words Look for someone who needs your help. Look for someone to include someone you wouldn’t normally include. See if you can smile at 10 people who are not smiling today! Do someone else’s chore today Call a grandparent just to say hi. Make a card or draw a picture to brighten someone’s day. Find someone new to eat lunch with today. Find someone who needs sticking up for-a friend or not. Genuinely ask someone how they’re doing Help clean up a mess that’s not yours. Write a thank you card to someone Hide sticky notes with positive quotes on them. Tell someone a joke to make them laugh Tidy up your classroom during a break. Encourage someone else to be kind. If you see someone by themselves, how can you include them? What could you do if a classmate says another friend can’t play. When our family grocery shops, how can you be a helper? How does being kind to someone else make you feel? What is a new family chore you would like to try? What was a kind thing that someone did for you? Why do you think they did it? Why is it important to do chores? What would happen if we all stopped doing them? How can you be more helpful to your parents today? How could you comfort a friend who is upset or hurt? What qualities would make a bad friend or someone who is not a “true friend”? How were you a good friend? What makes a best friend a little different than a friend? How can you show kindness to someone who is being unkind to others? When you’re exiting a store or restaurant, how can you be mindful of others? If you’re somewhere crowded, how can you be more mindful of others? How can you be mindful of other people when you’re watching TV or a movie? When there’s only one cookie left, how can you think of others? Do friends have to like all the same thing? Why? What qualities make someone a good friend? When a friend upsets you, what can you do? What would happen if no one helped someone who needed it?
