Jazz Matters

NuDirections FM

I built Jazz Matters as my home for contemporary jazz, nu-jazz, and world music — and now it’s also home to a small number of guest shows and mixes from people I rate. Expect contemporary jazz, nu-jazz, and global sounds — with tracklists, long reads, interviews, and playlists that go deeper than the usual. Jazz Matters is a not-for-profit hobby project I’m extremely proud of. It began in May 2021 as a weekly radio show on a London community station, and that spirit of discovery still guides everything I do. Today it reaches 40,000+ open-minded listeners across 57 countries on 24+ platforms. In 2026, I’m taking things up a gear with clear sections: JM Studio Notes, the Music Player, Show Notes & Playlists, Sleeve Notes, Interviews, and Music Videos. A full digital relaunch from my new studio follows — and after that, Jazz Matters podcasts and mixes will be exclusive to this website. A bold new chapter begins soon. New location. New studio. New player. Jazz Matters — because the music, and everything around it, truly does.

  3. Mestizo Sounds Presents “Evolution to Rescue”

Mestizo Sounds Presents “Evolution to Rescue”

My new mix for May 2025 is titled "Evolution to Rescue." While this name may seem random at first, it has a thoughtful origin. I spent a few days listening to the beautiful track "Evolution" by the Cinematic Orchestra, featuring the soulful singer Fontella Bass, who is known for her hit "Rescue Me." This connection inspired the mix's name. As you can see, it may be a bit random, but it carries significant meaning. We are living in times of change, and evolution can take various paths. I hope that this evolution leads to the rescue of all living beings, including humans and what we are good at—our creativity! The latest selection explores various genres and musical moods. Hope you enjoy listening! 4. Jazz Matters - Boxes, Memories & Hidden Gems

    04/24/2025

Jazz Matters - Boxes, Memories & Hidden Gems

As a mix, Boxes, Memories & Hidden Grooves flows like a journal entry, contemplative in places, ecstatic in others, and filled with the kind of sonic texture you can only get when memory meets music. There’s a gentle polarity here, between worldliness and intimacy, structure and space. The mix leans toward jazz fusion, spiritual jazz, and global jazz but it’s more about vibe than genre. Think forgotten fusion from Scandinavia, cinematic jazz-rock from Indonesia, soulful beat-led explorations, and the kind of live recordings that put you in the room. Whether you’re packing, unpacking, or just taking stock of the music that’s shaped you, this hour is designed to move with you.
