The daughter of an Indian father and Chinese mother, she ran for Houston City Council District C this past April lost in the runoff. Audrey has now taken up the battle against display of the Ten Commandments and Bible infused studies in public schools by filing a lawsuit. She joins us today to explain her strategy. 4:50 pm With a passion for public service and a determination to make his voice heard, attorney Neeloy Azad has his sights on the Houston Mayor’s race in November next year. The son of Bangladeshi immigrants, Neeloy has the enthusiasm and conviction of youth that the Democratic party seeks, to make a case for change that could propel him to even greater heights. But first, Neeloy seeks to make his voice heard in the vibrant Houston political scene and he joins us today in the studio to talk about his opinions. 5:20 pm Of the 254 counties – a few which are very large but sparsely populated – in Texas, 60 per cent or 150 of them do not a pharmacy and one pharmacy closes each week. This is a vexing problem made worse by the near monopolistic control nationwide on reimbursements by three Pharmacy Benefits Managers or PBM – Optum Rx, CVS Caremark and Express Scripts. Some people in rural areas have to drive 20 miles or more to get their prescriptions, others do not have broadband service to order on-line. We speak with Universityof Houston professor Dr. Rajender Aparasu and pharmacist Manvi Sharma to get more details on this situation. Many groups and individuals have come along in the past fewmonths to help those less educated in AI to catch up so that they can stay relevant. Today, we hear from Raja Roy and Shashikant Sarada, two professionals who regularly interface with AI in their workplaces, about an AI Bootcamp that the IIT Kharagpur Foundation is holding shortly to help in this re-training of computer skills. 4:50 pm Living in the Gulf Coast, we are all well aware of the weather events that can cause havoc to the region, ranging from deep freezes to floods from heavy rains to hurricanes and tornadoes. Kara Cook-Schultz is Director of Disaster Recovery and Community Resilience at the Greater Houston Community Foundation, where she leads regional efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and long-term resilience. She also serves as co-director of the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance, a partnership between the GHCF and United Way of Greater Houston that works year-round to improve disaster readiness and strengthen long-term recovery across the region. She joins us today to tell us how to prepare for natural disasters. 5:20 pm Immigrations cases have been thrown into chaos with changing rules of enforcement ever since the Trump Administration took office. Thousands of immigrants have been rounded up and deported or detained in rapidly deployed detention facilities. Heavily armed and ill trained ICE agents have been sent to Democratic cities resultingin violence and deaths and provoking national protests. H1-B visas have been capped and changes made to the work authorization process, bond eligibility if detained and to asylum regulations. Immigration attorney James Parkerwith Willy Nanayakkara & Associates talks about how important it has become to have the right legal representation to tackle these issues. State Rep. Penny Morales Shaw, District 148 has fought for better care of juveniles as an attorney even before she took office in 2021 and is a strident voice in the Texas legislature advocating for more funds for better child care. She joins us today to talk about the challenges in Texas for caring for youth. 4:50 pm As the Baby Boomer generation – those bornbetween 1946 and 1964 – gets older, they are fast becoming the Geriatric generation that is on the cusp of needing more medical care. Though medical science is making rapid advances in treatments of many diseases that come with old age, society has not been able to come to grips on how to offer good care and assistance at affordable prices and many are left ill-prepared financially. We turn to our monthly guest Lalit Jallan of Insurance Financial Services Group, to talk about getting ready for long-term care. 5:20 pm For over 40 years, the India Culture Center has toiled to keep Indian heritage forefront in the community’s mind, especially through celebration of two national flagship events. Founded in 1990, the HGH organizes with area temples to hold the largest Janamashtami celebration in the area. In addition, HGH seeks to empower Hindu youth to lead with confidence and carry forward the timeless principles of Vedic Dharma. To tell us more about the Gala, we are joined by community activist Vijay Pallod and YHGH President AnjaliAggarwal. 5:20 pm You can’t suppress entrepreneurial flair especially when often times it looks like it goes against all odds. Sangeeta Kataria Dua has been an entrepreneur ever since she first arrived in the US in 1991 and has tried many avenues in business and social outreach after she came to Houston in 2001. Despite many obstacles, she has remained positive and her personality has won over many admirers. This week, she was elected President of the South Asian Chamber of Commerce and also appointed as Ambassador at Large for the Kingdom of Kush an unassigned parcel of land in northern Sudan. George will deal with the latest of these bizarre orders-du-jour and discuss the new regulation on the EB 5 investors visa. 4:50 pm Unable to face the prospect of being dismissedfrom the medical school program at Texas Tech University’s Healthcare Center in El Paso, third-year student Vaibhav Duggal felt extreme shame for being accused by a female patient of inappropriate comments during an examination inJuly 2025. A late night email from the Dean’s office was the final straw and the next day he took his own life. His distraught parents Vivek and Neeru were convinced this led to his mental breakdown and have filed a $30 million lawsuit against the university for not providing care. They join us in the studio to explain their position and demands. 5:20 pm Over the past year, Artificial Intelligence has quickly surrounded us in every aspect of life and many people who have not understood how to use it will be left behind, just as with the advent of the personal computer. Naeem Vehvaria is a software engineer who deals with AI daily and understands how it can be harnessed for better performance. He is also the Treasurer of the Indian Muslims Association of Greater Houston which will be offering an AI Fundamentals course on August 1. Naeem will tell us more about it.
