She later fought to safeguard the resident’s political power during the county’s redistricting efforts. She is now running on the Democratic ticket for Ft Bend County Commissioner Pct. 4, which is a crowded field of 7 candidates. She joins ustoday to discuss what sets her platform apart from the others. 4:50 pm A few years ago, during his campaign for County Commissioner Pct 4, we asked  Dexter McCoy to take part in our popular news quiz and he gladly came and showed his ability to engage with people at every level. Dexter won that race and now, we are happy to have him with us again as he runs for the Ft Bend County Judge position. We will discuss what initiatives he has been able to spearhead as Commissioner and also what issues he believes are vital to the county’s future to keep it growing. 5:20 pm Ever an optimist, Ramesh Cherivirala made a huge transition in his career as a PhD in Chemistry who moved into the financial field and has had a very successful track as an agent for New York Life. He has kept involved in the Indian community through several non-profits and has been president of the India Culture Center and also the Indo American Charity Foundation, has also held other Board positions. He ran unsuccessfully for FBISD Trustee and later for Texas state rep. He now has his sights set for the FB County Commissioner Pct 4 in the Republican primary. It has sent heavily armed ICE agents to Democratic cities resulting in the shooting deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, whom officials labeled as “terrorist”. By making it much harder to get a H1B visa and demanding bonds of upto $50,000 for tourist visas even, the US is seeing a sharp drop in visitors and students sending shockwaves through universities! Immigration attorney George Willy talks about these issues and how to protect yourself from being arbitrarily detained by ICE. 4:50 pm Homelessness is a big issue nationwide, but in the past two years, Houston has gotten goodmarks for tackling it in creative ways which have resulted in a significant drop of people on the streets and move into affordable housing projects through the efforts of several key agencies like the Houston Land Bank, Houston Community Land Trust, SEARCH Homeless Services and others. HCLT has provided permanently affordable homeownership to 200 limited-income Houston families since 2019. We are joined by the HCLT Executive Director Ashley Allen to tell us how the program works. 5:20 pm Five years ago, Dr. Audrey Nath, a successful neurologist heard the call for advocacy and left full-timeacademic medicine for more flexible telemedicine work so she could fight for immigrant rights, pre-trial detention standards, healthcare access and public education. The daughter of an Indian father and Chinese mother, she joined the crowded field of 6 other candidates to run for Houston City Council District C in the upcoming special election on April 4th. It is a seat vacated by Abbie Kamin who is running for Harris County attorney. Audrey joins us in the studioto explain her platform. Shike joins a slate of six others vying for the position in the March 3 Democratic primary. Nabil joins us today to explain his platform and how the campaign is going right now. 4:50 pm The shooting death of Renee Goode in Minneapolis and the subsequent unrest in the city has brought a sense of unease and fear into the daily lives of non-mainstream families across the nation. There are many who are amazed at the radical shift in the attitude in the country, leading them to question if they can progress in the US or find better opportunities elsewhere.  Hubert Vaz-Nayak is a successful serial entrepreneur who ponders about what future is in store for the South Asian community in the US. 5:20 pm Most people wait till they retire to contemplatewhat their contribution to society has been and how it will evolve in the final stretch. This week, in our weekly paper, Indo American News, we have featured several who ran the Chevron Marathon this past weekend, including regular marathoner Dr.Kuldip Kaul (it’s his 16th) and 86-year-old Santosh Dave. We are happy to have two others in the studio with us today, Dr. Randeep Suneja who, believe it or not, was skiing and paragliding in Interlaken,Switzerland last week; and Swatantra Jain who surprised us all with his first marathon runat age 79.
