When I first got into hardcore I witnessed some pretty wild events. There were fights with skinheads, suburban dudes acting as "crews," countless stage dives, a full scale riot, black eyes, a broken nose, and a broken window at a gig in a second story loft courtesy of a guitar amp. There was also the time we all had to wait it out because someone pulled a gun out in the parking lot. This all transpired within my first two years in the scene. Needless to say I was hooked. This podcast will serve as not only a memory of all of those events, but also a look into the future.

    On this episode, Josh welcomes Hudson Valley's Grave Heist back to the podcast.     Episode 169 - Overthrow

    Greg interviews Anthony and Chris from Long Island, NY's Overthrow on episode 169 of the Hardcore Archive Podcast. Overthrow were first active in the Long Island and NYHC scene in the mid-1990s and played shows throughout the northeast with bands like E-Town Concrete, Indecision, Kid Dynamite, Shutdown, and Madball. The guys in ⁠⁠@overthrow_lihc⁠⁠ were all friends before starting the band, and discovered hardcore together while they were in high school. We hear about their experience playing shows in the New York area and how the band came to be affiliated with Triple Crown Records. Anthony and Chris discuss the reunion shows over the past decade that ultimately lead to the band reforming and writing new music. The conversation shifts to discuss growing older while still maintaining connections to the hardcore music community, how hardcore has provided an outlet for grief over the loss of friends and family, and how hardcore influenced them as fathers. We hear about the new songs Overthrow has recently recorded, two of which can be found on the popular music streaming platforms, and the forthcoming record due out this fall.     Episode 168 - No Hope

    Greg and Josh take another trip down under in this interview Sean from No Hope on episode 168. @NoHopeHC is a melodic hardcore band from Bendigo, Victoria, Australia, and have a sound that will appeal to fans of Verse, Comeback Kid, and Have Heart. Sean discusses how he became acquainted with hardcore punk and the importance of CD samplers from punk and hardcore record labels in the pre-internet era. We also hear about how the band came together, what it is like organizing a band and shows in a small city, and some scene updates from Australia.     Episode 167 - Chris Wrenn (Bridge Nine Records)

    On Episode 167 Greg and Josh are joined by Chris Wrenn from Bridge Nine Records. Chris discusses the early years of the record label in the mid-90s, the origins of Edge Day and the last Ten Yard Fight show, and how proceeds from the sales of the infamous "Yankees Suck" t-shirts financed some of the early 2000s most significant hardcore albums and provided a foundation for his successful Boston sports paraphernalia company, Sully's Brand. Chris announces a forthcoming book about his experiences running the label and associated businesses. We hear background stories about some of our favorite @⁠BridgeNine⁠ albums and bands including @⁠NoWarning⁠, Carry On, and @⁠WeAreAmericanNightmare⁠, how Ben Affleck came into possession of the Bridge Nine and @⁠DefeaterHC ⁠shits, and reflections and musings on the once important and unavoidable role message boards played in perpetuating hardcore culture. Chris updates us on his recent activities with Sully's Brand, the record label and the (relatively) recent addition of the Bridge Nine record store and warehouse.     Episode 166 - World on Fire

    On episode 166 Greg and Josh interview Dan Cross-Viola from World on Fire after doing a sting of solo episodes. World on Fire is hardcore band from Buffalo, NY that combines elements of d-beat into a unique sound that will appeal to fans of both genres. Dan shares his hardcore origin story and discusses how the band came together. Dan, Greg, and Josh reminisce about the late 90s and early 2000s hardcore scene in Buffalo, NY. Greg and Dan discuss their mutual love of Trial and @gregbennick. We also hear about World on Fire's new record, Ad Nauseam, which is available at worldonfirehc.com and on all major streaming platforms. Dan, Josh, and Greg close out the episode with a discussion on how hardcore has influenced them as fathers and how hardcore influenced the trajectory of their lives through adolescence and now into their 40s.     Episode 165 - Michael "Popeye" Vogelsang (Calling Hours/Farside)

    On episode of 165 of the Hardcore Archive Podcast, Greg is joined by Michael "Popeye" Vogelsang of Calling Hours and Farside.  Greg and Popeye discuss his introduce to hardcore in the 1980s, experiences he had attending hardcore shows in Orange County, and the influence early California hardcore bands like Hard Stance had on him.  The discussion also includes how Farside came together, notable shows that the band played, other notable bands that Farside shared members with, and how the band came to be affiliated with Revelation Records.  The conversation takes a detour from hardcore to discuss Popeye's work doing voice over work, and his career as a voice actor. Fun fact: if you have ever played through The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or Fallout 4, you are already familiar with his voice work. Greg and Popeye shift back to discussing hardcore, and we hear about Popeye's move from California to Pennsylvania, how Calling Hours came together, notable shows Calling Hours has played in recent months, and a tour of Europe Calling Hours is currently on with @BeWellHC.  This is great episode for fans of late 80s and early 90s hardcore, and for those of us who love classic @RevelationRecords bands, and confused fans of the Gary Larson comic who came to the wrong place.  This episode features two tracks after the credits from up and coming Rochester, NY hardcore bands.     Episode 163 - Eyes of Salt

    On episode 163, Josh is joined by Gary from the Denver band Eyes Of Salt. Eyes Of Salt are a melodic hardcore band that just released a new EP called “What To Do When The Worst Is Coming.”  Josh and Gary talk about the history of the band, some of the key shows they have played, as well as everything that went into the recording of the current record. The lyrics deal on the record deal with grief and Gary describes the difficult process behind writing these lyrics.  Josh enjoyed the record so much that he is releasing it on his new record label Enterprise Hardcore Records.
