Dr. Ellyn Enderlin: glaciologist and mother in academia

Dr. Ellyn Enderlin discusses her research on contemporary glacier dynamics in Greenland and the Antarctic, how she balances motherhood and academia, the issue of the leaky pipeline, as well as her experience with the hiring processes in academia. connect with Ellyn at: @glacier_doc on Twitter or on her website at https://sites.google.com/site/ellynenderlin/home check us out at: letsdosomethingbig.weebly.com, @ldsbig on instagram & @wepersistpod on Twitter podcast cover art by Emma Henry emmahenryart.wixsite.com/emmasportfolio music: www.purple-planet.com

Jill Pelto: climate change data artist and paleoglaciologist

In 2018, we sat down with Jill Pelto to discuss her glacial science and art as well as how and why science and art need to intersect, especially when considering matters of climate change. Here we both dive into Jill's Master's research on the past sensitivity of the Antarctic ice sheet to warming as well as take a tour of some of her data art pieces. connect with Jill at: @jillpelto on Instagram @GlaciogenicArt on Twitter http://www.jillpelto.com/ buy her art on etsy: www.etsy.com/uk/shop/GlaciogenicArt check us out at: letsdosomethingbig.weebly.com, @ldsbig on instagram & @wepersistpod on Twitter podcast cover art by Emma Henry emmahenryart.wixsite.com/emmasportfolio music: www.purple-planet.com

Dr. Asmeret Asefaw Berhe: soil biogeochemist studying climate change impacts and equity in STEM

Dr. Asmeret Asefaw Berhe discusses her research on soil and its importance to storing carbon and regulating climate, how we can manage land to promote carbon storage, along with how we need to act with intention in building anti-racist environments. Dr. Clare Eayrs: sea ice and marine ecosystem modeller and field scientist

In 2018 Dr. Clare Eayrs shared her unconventional route to where she currently works in sea ice modeling at New York University Abu Dhabi with me via video chat. Here you can hear about her journey from growing up in Zimbabwe to going to university in the UK, pursuing jobs in the UAE and Italy, getting further education back in the UK, eventually finding herself back in the UAE. Clare's interests evolved over time from oceanography to the sea ice she studies today, and the route she took to get there is super interesting and refreshing. connect with Clare at: @coughlanclare on Twitter check us out at: letsdosomethingbig.weebly.com, @ldsbig on instagram & @wepersistpod on Twitter podcast cover art by Emma Henry emmahenryart.wixsite.com/emmasportfolio music: www.purple-planet.com

Dr. Joellen Russell: climatology and biogeochemical dynamics modeller

In which Dr. Joellen Russell (currently a professor at the University of Arizona) discusses her journey through academia which began with answering a question she had as a child -- 'where does sea ice go when it leaves Kotzebue, Alaska?' and now is guided by much larger scale questions around anthropogenic climate change and working with other scientists to determine what we need to do to stop it. Joellen's journey thus far, which has included hurdles of adversity related to being a woman and a mother in academia, is inspirational and is definitely demanding of a listen. connect with Joellen at: https://www.geo.arizona.edu/Russell @deepblueseanext on Twitter check us out at: letsdosomethingbig.weebly.com, @ldsbig on instagram & @wepersistpod on Twitter podcast cover art by Emma Henry emmahenryart.wixsite.com/emmasportfolio music: www.purple-planet.com
