S5E5: My Head Is An Animal

DISCALIMER: Tonight's stories contain depictions of animal slander, experimentation and violence.  On tonight's episode, we're delivering one of our most intense episodes yet. We're exploring animal slander, experimentation and exploitation. Three new stories, all centered on animals and their human oppressors. In the first segment, two sharks don't take kindly to a beach-goer's choice of prose in 'A Well-Governed Shark' by John Weagly. In the second segment, Maddy Nibble's 'Winging the Wingless' brings us the scientific logs of a mad scientist and the numerous bodies in their wake in the pursuit of godhood. Finally, an affluent estate party leads to a wild midnight ride and the lines between animal and man are blurred in 'Horse' by James Wilkinson. PLUS! Joining us in the void as our music guest is TINY VIPERS! An indie DIY troubadour through and through, Jesy’s delicate blend of hushed vocals and guitar create piercing elegies that flow in and out of time but linger like ghosts long after. Her new album, Tormentor (2025), meditates on her experience: whether speaking directly from her soul in the title track, or observing the horrors of sensory awareness on “Breakfast,” Fortino establishes herself as a participant, observer and mediator of the paradoxes inherent in human experience. Joined by our top-notch ensemble of performers; Jordan-Michael Whidbey, Cody Smith, Andrew Shanks,  Maddy Nibble, Helen Roundhill and Shane Regan. As well as original music by Zara and CLaudio.  The Ugly Radio is a production of ugly radio presents and is a part of the podmoth network. Tonight's episode was produced by Andrew Shanks. S5E3: The Ocean Doesn't Want Me Today

We're going down down down. Into the dark. Into the deep. Whether it's the vast ocean of gases surrounding celestial bodies or the haunted bodies of water that threaten to swallow us whole. Tonight's protagonists find themselves with water firmly above their heads. First up, we have two debuts to The Ugly Radio as Maggie McMuffin spins a ghostly tale about a lake that kills all who enters it's waters, and the betrothed woman (played by Helen Roundhill) who yearns for a way out in "Much Like Drowning". Then we blast off into steampunk skies Aaron J Shay's "The Ghost of a Storm" - depicting the fated journey of the airship New Boreas, and the storm that threatens to swallow them whole.  We also see the return of Sleepy Eyes of Death as musical guest with crushing post-rock electronica.  Tether yourself to dry land, void-dwellers, for you're liable to get lost in deep waters.  Featured Stories were: “Much Like Drowning” written by Maggie McMuffin. Performed by Helen Roundhill.“The Ghost of a Storm” written by Aaron J Shay. Performed by Andrew Shanks. Featured Music Guest was Sleepy Eyes of Death with “Distant Horizons Bled Dry” and “Abandoned Bodies”.
