    Ep. 154 - The Odyssey (Homer, ≈800 BCE/ Nolan, 2026)

**THIS EPISODE CONTAINS FULL SPOILERS** Somebody get these PODCASTERS out of here! We had to fight like hell to get IMAX tickets, which in and of itself was an odyssey (people died, we had to drive all the way to Santa Monica), but we finally saw The Odyssey - a new take on one of the most classic pieces of literature on Earth, directed by one of the best directors on Earth, Christopher Nolan. Gods, monsters, sirens, cyclopes, treacherous seas, Jon Bernthal needing to tell you somethin’… and Matt Damon declaring that he’s “bringing it all.” Uhhhhhh, yeah. This movie DOES bring it all! Frequent Film Is Lit guest and scholar Ryan Burns returns to give us his take on Nolan’s massive adaptation of Homer’s classic. We get into Matt Damon’s Odysseus, the absurdly stacked cast, and Nolan’s obsession with time, memory, and shooting on film. We also get into how the movie compares to the original poem, and whether this is the definitive cinematic Odyssey or simply Christopher Nolan torturing his crew for 12 months. (We get it, Chris. You like to shoot on location!) You won't want to miss this epic episode! #FilmIsLit #TheOdyssey #TheOdysseyMovie #ChristopherNolan #MattDamon #TomHolland #AnneHathaway #RobertPattinson #Zendaya #LupitaNyongo #CharlizeTheron #JonBernthal #RyanBurns #Homer #Odysseus #GreekMythology #Literature #Nolan #IMAX #MoviePodcast #FilmPodcast #Cinema #MovieDiscussion #FilmDiscussion #EpicMovies
