Birmingham Enterprise Community​ (BEC) is a community of emerging entrepreneurs and change-makers from across the Midlands that aims to​ make the region one of the best locations in the world to set up and run a business​. Formed in 2019 after a group of enterprising students from all 5 Birmingham Universities came together to discuss ways of uniting their respective student communities, BEC looks to​ create opportunities for individuals to develop as entrepreneurs and turn the ideas that they have for a startup or to make an impact into a reality.​

    BEC speak with Lee Lam This week Alex Balderstone , Venture Director at BEC speakers with Lee Lam from Lee Lam Consulting, on what community has meant for her in the past few months whilst working with local business up and down the UK, and the positives that can be taken away for the future through a new way of working. About Lee Lam Lee has a depth of experience and knowledge in financial services technology due to the COO / Chief of Staff roles across a career that spans over 20 years and has also run a successful coaching practice alongside this for over 14 years. She is the right blend of risk-taking, change-making creativity, with the security, safety and logic of a COO who can implement change and growth without any dramas. Lee deliberately looks for those areas that could be stifling or stopping your ability to perform to your potential. And you may not even realise they are there - until it is too late.     BEC speak with Iain Cockburn, Partner at Withers Worldwide This week Alex Balderstone, Venture Director at BEC speakers with Iain Cockburn from Withers on the state of funding, the Future Fund and the best recourse for tech start-ups in the current climate.   About Iain Cockburn Iain is a partner in the corporate team He joined the firm from JAG Shaw Baker when they merged with Withers to create a new legal offering, Withers tech, in 2018. Iain’s practice is focused on venture capital financings, advising VC firms, entrepreneurs and high-growth companies on investments at all stages of a company’s life cycle. In addition, Iain provides ongoing legal and strategic support to venture-backed companies, working closely with founders and management throughout the expansion of their business. Iain has worked alongside Susanna Stanfield as part of the team that was involved in the publication of the British Venture Capital Association model form documentation for Series A financings and is responsible for the CPD programme for corporate and venture capital lawyers within the firm.
