    Lessons from a Tree

Send us Fan Mail Sometimes the Divine speaks through something as ordinary as a tree. For weeks, I kept driving past the same tree on my way to work. I’d look at it and ask, “What are you?” Not just what is it called?—but what can I see if I stop labeling it and actually pay attention? And the lessons started coming. A strong tree grows down before it grows up. It develops deep roots so when the winds come, it can bend without being destroyed. Our lives aren't much different. If our identity depends on approval, performance, money, success, or what other people think of us, we're living with shallow roots. Then there are the dead branches. A healthy tree doesn't keep pouring life into something that no longer serves it. Sometimes we have to do the same thing—prune old habits, anger, control, manipulation, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and patterns that may have helped us survive once but are now stealing energy from the person we're becoming. Then there are the leaves—the things taking in light and feeding the tree. That made me ask a harder question: What am I feeding myself? Am I taking in things that bring life, peace, truth, and growth—or am I mindlessly absorbing whatever someone else's algorithm puts in front of me? And then there are the seasons. A tree doesn't fight winter because it thinks it should still be producing like it's summer. Sometimes the season is for growth. Sometimes it's for putting down deeper roots. Sometimes it's for letting go. Ultimately, I realized I don't just want to admire that tree. I want to live like one. Deeply rooted. Strong enough to withstand the wind. Providing shade when somebody needs shelter. Bringing life instead of adding more toxicity to the world around me. Producing fruit when it's the right season—and leaving something useful behind when my time here is finished. Maybe there's a lesson waiting for you in something you've passed a thousand times. Slow down. Look again. Ask: “What is it?” 🎙️ Yup, I Got You — Redneck Wisdom with Tombo Baldwin Listen, follow, support, and find everything Yup, I Got You here: https://linktr.ee/tombobaldwin Support the show  What you agree with gains permission to operate in your life.

    Expansion

Send us Fan Mail EXPANSION What if the ordinary things around you are only ordinary because your brain has learned to stop looking? A tree becomes tree. A car becomes car. A bed becomes bed. Identified. Filed away. Move on. But there's so much more there. In this episode of Yup. I Got You., Tombo builds on The Moment and What Is It? with the next step: Expansion. Instead of allowing your brain to quickly label something and move on, pause and ask: What is it—to me? A tree isn't just a tree. It can be shade, shelter, food, beauty, a home, a windbreak—or, as Tombo describes a quaking aspen, “a balm for my soul.”  And that's where expansion begins. When we stop rushing to conclusions, creativity wakes up. Creativity feeds imagination. Imagination opens possibilities. Possibility leads naturally toward gratitude—and gratitude brings us back to peace.  Even the simplest experiences can become something more. Getting into a bed with clean sheets. Driving with the windows down. Smelling a freshly cut field. Listening to another person without predicting what they're about to say. These moments have always been there. We may simply have stopped experiencing them.  Expansion is an invitation to slow down and recover some of what hurry, prediction and constant stimulation have taken from us. Take The Moment.  Ask, “What is it?”  Expand the answer.  Let creativity awaken.  Allow gratitude to come.  Find the peace. And from that place, leave room for something new. Because your Best Reality Now may not be something you figure out. It may be something you finally create enough space to experience. 🎙️ YUP. I GOT YOU. Real Talk. Real Life. What is it

Send us Fan Mail What Is It? — Breaking the Brain’s Prediction Code What if one of the reasons life sometimes stops feeling fully alive is because your brain has gotten too good at predicting it? We look at a lamp and instantly decide: lamp. We look at a chair: chair. We meet someone and almost immediately decide who we think they are. Predicted. Classified. Filed away. In this follow-up to The Moment, Tombo takes the idea of pausing the brain’s constant predictions one step further with a simple new tool: Ask: “What is it?” Instead of immediately accepting the label your brain gives you, stay in the unknown for a moment. A lamp isn't only a lamp. It can be an illuminator, a light giver, a brightener. A chair can be a place of rest, conversation, meditation, comfort—and much more. The point isn't to pretend an object isn't what it is. The point is to interrupt the brain's automatic classification long enough for imagination, curiosity and possibility to return.  And then the question gets much bigger: Who am I? Who is that person in front of me? We are more than the labels our experiences have taught us to use. And the people around us are more than the quick judgments our brains make about them. When we stop assuming we already know, we create room to actually experience ourselves, other people and life again.  This episode is ultimately an invitation to get off autopilot. Don't finish somebody else's sentence.  Don't assume you already know their story.  Don't let your brain predict, classify and file away every experience before you've actually lived it. Stay curious. Stay present. Allow yourself to be surprised. Because maybe breaking the code isn't about escaping reality. Maybe it's about getting the experience of reality back. As Tombo puts it: “We demand our experiences back.”  🎙️ YUP. I GOT YOU. Real Talk. Real Life.
