#269 5 Ways to Make This Holiday Season Yours Again

The holiday season is here, but if you're navigating separation or divorce, it might look a little different this year. And you know what? Different doesn't have to mean miserable! In this episode of From Devastated to Divorced, I'm sharing five ways to make the holidays yours again, from creating new traditions and planning something you genuinely look forward to, to letting go of old obligations and finding meaningful connections beyond your marriage. We'll also talk about giving yourself permission to enjoy the season without feeling guilty about moving forward. You don't have to recreate the holidays you once had or make everything magical for everyone else. This year, let's focus on what makes YOU happy, because even if life hasn't turned out the way you imagined, you still deserve a holiday season filled with moments of joy, connection, and a little holiday magic of your own.   - - - - - - - - Want that chapter checklist just Click Here! #268 From Marriage to Mutual Respect: Where My Ex-Husband and I Stand 30 Years Later

Yesterday would have been my 30th wedding anniversary. And while that marriage ended years ago, the anniversary got me thinking about something I never could have imagined back then: the relationship I have with my ex-husband today. We aren't best friends. We rarely speak, and we've built completely separate lives. But somewhere along the way, we've both grown and matured enough to reach a place of mutual respect. When life's biggest moments have happened, including the loss of my parents, he's shown up. And rather than his presence feeling awkward, intrusive, or unwelcome, I've genuinely appreciated it. In this episode, I'm reflecting on how our relationship has evolved, what it means to be able to show up for someone you once shared a life with, and why a healthy post-divorce relationship doesn't necessarily mean friendship, constant communication, or reconciliation. Sometimes it simply means reaching a place where the past no longer prevents you from treating each other with kindness and respect. Not every divorced couple will get here, and not every relationship should. But this is where we are today, and I think it's worth acknowledging. - - - - - - - - Want that chapter checklist just Click Here! #267 Not My Business? Why Every Wife Needs to Know the Family Finances — my favorite for personality and curiosity.

A TikTok recently stopped me in my tracks when a stay-at-home mom listed the things she considered none of her business as a wife and family finances were at the top of her list. Excuse me, WHAT?! In this episode, I'm sharing why I believe every woman, whether she's a stay-at-home mom or working outside the home, needs to understand her family's financial situation. We're talking bank accounts, debt, investments, retirement savings, and why leaving everything in your spouse's hands can have serious consequences. Divorce happens. Spouses die. Financial mistakes happen. And sometimes the person managing the money isn't managing it nearly as well as you think. You don't have to be the one paying every bill or making every financial decision, but you absolutely should know where the money is, what you owe, and what your financial future looks like. Because trusting your spouse and protecting yourself financially should never be mutually exclusive. - - - - - - - - Want that chapter checklist just Click Here! #266 Goodbye and Hello: The Divorce Journal Entry That Made Me Stop Podcasting

Some episodes stay with you long after you've recorded them. This is one of those episodes for me. Originally recorded in 2021, Goodbye and Hello was one of the most emotionally difficult journal entries I ever shared—and afterward, I stepped away from podcasting for six months, questioning whether I wanted to continue at all. Today, I'm revisiting that recording and the powerful experience of saying goodbye to the marriage I had hoped for, the dreams that would never come true, and even the painful parts of that relationship I was finally ready to leave behind. But this entry wasn't only about endings. It was also about saying hello to the possibilities, experiences, and future waiting on the other side of divorce. Listening again after all these years was emotional, but also incredibly validating. And at the end of this episode, I have a question for you: Should I bring back the journal entries that started it all? There are still so many pages I never shared, and I'd love to hear what you think. - - - - - - - - Want that chapter checklist just Click Here!
