    What to talk about in a Skip-Level 1:1 (from 100+ executive threads)

    Skip-level 1:1 on your calendar and no idea what to say? This episode gives you a playbook for what to talk about in a skip-level meeting with your manager's manager, drawn from online discussions where directors, VPs and senior engineers talk about what really happens in these meetings. CHEAT SHEET (copy into your notes) Strategy - "From your altitude, what are the top two or three priorities for our department over the next two quarters?" - "How do you see our team's mission evolving to support the company's new direction?" - "What is the biggest roadblock or risk you see to our organization hitting its annual targets?" Ground truth (formula) - Good news on progress + the problem in hours or cost + a proposed fix + "Have you noticed this across the wider org?" Career and promotion - "If you were in calibration today evaluating my readiness for the next level, what would be the single biggest hesitation or gap holding me back?" - "What is the biggest behavioral difference between someone at my level and someone at the next level?" Leadership wisdom - "What is the most difficult aspect of your job right now?" - "What was the most counter-intuitive lesson you learned moving from individual contributor to executive leader?"
