๐๐๐๐๐! Over the weekend, I was privileged to have anchored a live Youth Empowerment Program tagged: ๐บ๐ป๐ฌ๐ท๐ท๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ป๐ถ ๐ท๐ผ๐น๐ท๐ถ๐บ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ผ๐ณ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ด๐ฌ๐ต๐ป somewhere in a private facebook forum and I was dazed at the height of confidence I displayed on stage which got my audience glued till the end of the program. Ordinarily, I planned for a maximum of one hour but ended up spending less time which left my audience in a state of euphoria, wondering if I was just starting. Guess what! ๐ฒ Inspites I've been writing for years, that was actually my first live appearance on stage and the level of excellence spoke volume. Alright, come with me, let me show you something. . . Prior to this show, I used to be a very timid lady, reserved, an introvert to the core and one who runs away from stage presentation. At some point, I got scared of the microphone.๐ค Whenever one is handed over to me whether for song ministration or speech presentation, there's this unknown fear that would engulf me instantly. At that point in time, that is when my bladder will be crying for press release. Hahaha ๐ Ask me, where the urge to empty my bladder is suddenly coming from, I wouldn't be able to fathom. As much as I try, I kept shying away from the stage. I rather hide under the pretence of 'I don't know how to do a thing', than facing the crowd to speak. Talk about singing confidently in the midst of my co-choristers. I will do it passionately simply because, I prefer to hide under the shadow of the mighty to facing my fears. One day, my Music Director called my attention to this in the presence of others and said... Maureen, you've got this singing potential in you, but your challenge is stage fright. When it comes to writing, you can expressly express yourself but come and sing now, you'll start fidgeting. I really want to help you become your real self and build your self confidence. And phew! The journey started just like that until when I started getting tiny fraction of compliments that I'm improving gradually. Nevertheless, I didn't stop at that. I also got the privilege to serve as a Diction Facilitator for a Diction Agency where I'm presently undergoing a 3 months intense speech training and diction polish. Which in turn has helped sharpen my voice intonation and has rebranded my speech. Upon completion, I'll be working with the Agency to train corporate firms' staff, speak at seminars and other top business parastatals. No doubt, these practices have helped instilled my self confidence. Talk about the charismatic expression, the liveliness, the joy from within, the courage, the smiles, the confidence, the outfit, the background settings and many more behind-the-scene stories made my presentation top notch and kept my audience glued till the end of the show. More so, I was able to overcome my stage fright the moment I started believing in myself and what I can do. I will always tell myself... Hello, Maureen. You can do it. If A B C and D can go live without flopping, nothing can stop you if you're focused on becoming the best. And truly, that was my reality and the beginning of my transformation. Truth is, anything is achievable, so long you're focused and intentional about growth. And today, I'm super proud of myself that my first appearance live came like a BANG. I truly love the woman I've grown to become overtime. You too can if you're ready to put in the work. To become a great writer, you must also learn how to speak.
