The Liberated Life - Hard Conversations Worth Your Courage

Robin Quinn Keehn

A podcast about hard conversations, resentment, boundaries, and self-trust. A lot of us are tired in a way sleep doesn't fix — doing all the things, and still pulled at by something we can't quite name. Usually it's the unsaid, the unfinished, the undecided: the open loops quietly draining our time, energy, and peace. The Liberated Life is about those loops — and how to close them. Hosted by Robin Quinn Keehn — human dynamics specialist, certified mediator, and author of Stop Stealing From Yourself — it's an honest look at what holds us back and what sets us free: resentment, the conversations we avoid, the boundaries we don't hold, the promises we break to ourselves, how we communicate under pressure, and the calm on the other side. Some episodes are Robin and a single idea. Others are conversations with people who've lived it. No fluff, no hype — just the truth, said plainly. This isn't about hacks, hustle, or surface-level strategy. It's the quieter, harder work — closing the gap between who you are and who you're becoming, one honest conversation at a time. Whether you lead a business, a family, a community, or simply your own life, the work is the same: stop avoiding, say the thing, and free yourself from what you've been carrying. Start with the free Close One Loop tool at closetheloopsnow.com. Because the real question was never what's on your to-do list. It's this: what conversation is worth your courage?

The Day I Took It On — Lori Watson Walks Me Through Rewriting an Old Story

Most of the time, I ask the questions. This time I'm the one in the hot seat. Lori Watson defines mindset as the story you're telling yourself. We tell stories about the past and call them memories. We tell stories about the future and call them goals. The words inside those stories shape the lens we see ourselves, other people, and the world through, and most of the time we don't notice. In this episode, Lori walks me through her four-step process live. The story I chose is 32 years old: two babies under two, a sleepless night, a husband heading out to tennis, and one small "no" that ended with me thinking, "Fine. I'll do it myself." I called that independence for a long time. Somewhere in the second read I heard it for what it was. Grab a pen. Pick a story of your own and pause the episode to do each step alongside me. We talk about: — Why the stories in our heads move too fast to observe, and why writing them down slows them enough to see— The four steps: title it, write it, read it slowly, then read it again with a full breath between every sentence— Why we speed up when a story hurts, and why letting the intensity rise for a minute helps you let it go— "It's not the experience that gets us. It's what we made it mean about ourselves."— Facts vs. story: the facts don't change, the story is an opinion, and opinions can be changed— How one ordinary morning can quietly write the script for decades— Helping kids and teens: "just because a thought pops into your head doesn't mean it's true, or that it's you"— Why you shouldn't argue with "nobody cares about me," and how to validate the feeling without validating the story Lori is a mindset coach who works with high-achieving women, busy moms, professionals, and entrepreneurs. "Why Are You So Miserable?" — Daniel Sterling on Identity, Bottoming Out & Owning Your Part

Daniel Sterling was on skis at three and racing by eight — and he spent the next sixteen years chasing ski-racing glory until the joy was gone and his whole identity had collapsed into one thing: the fast guy. When he retired at 24, burned out with no education and no prospects, he kept chasing the next shiny thing — broadcasting, Hollywood, five screenplays — all the way to the bottom. Then a mentor shook his hand, looked straight through him, listened to his polished family story, and asked the question that started everything: "That all sounds great. Why are you so miserable?" This is a conversation about what happens when your identity is wrapped up in one pursuit — and who you get to become when it's gone. Daniel and Robin get into coping by disappearing, the slow work of learning to say the hard thing out loud, and the practice that reshaped his life: asking of everything that lands on him, is this mine, or is it someone else's? We talk about: — Why an identity built on winning is a tenuous place to stand— Praising a child's effort instead of their talent — and how it quietly dissolves perfectionism— The "hot seat," emotional withdrawal, and what it costs to stay silent— Personal accountability: "I am responsible for everything" — and being your own advocate when someone tries to unload on you— The difference between being nice and being kind— Open loops — the unmade decisions, the unhad conversations, the promises to ourselves — and why they weigh on us A conversation about coming to know yourself so well that the patterns that don't serve you no longer have a hold on you. Daniel is the author of the forthcoming memoir Hungry. MORE FROM DANIEL STERLING "Shared Space" SubstackYouTube & Instagram — Daniel Sterling Writer   Got a loop you need to close? Nice vs. Kind, and the Question That Changed His Life — with Kenneth Kollasch

Kenneth Kollasch has reinvented himself more times than most people attempt in a lifetime — professional soccer player, national ballroom champion, pastor, author, business coach. At the start of it all, he turned down a pro soccer contract to marry his wife, Caroline. What turned him wasn't a plan. It was his grandfather putting down his fork at a Mexican restaurant and asking one question: "Kenneth, is that what you really want?" That's where this conversation lives — in the difference between being nice and being kind. Nice agrees with you. Kind is willing to risk a little of itself to tell you the truth, especially about the decisions you're most sure of. We talk about: — Why an undecided decision is an open loop, and what it quietly costs to leave it open— The "40% rule" Kenneth and Caroline use to decide without overthinking — and the freedom of knowing you can always make another decision— Accountability that's about your identity, not your task list— The three levels of being known — served, loved, and truly known — and why the deepest one is worth the risk— What it takes to give someone permission to coach you, and why permission changes everything A conversation about becoming someone new without losing yourself along the way. Kenneth is the author of Beating Average: A Story to Extraordinary.Find Kenneth here Got a loop you need to close? The Language Nobody Taught You to Hear with Jeremy Doran

We call people "difficult" when really they're just wired to see the world differently — and Jeremy Doran has spent his life learning to translate. Jeremy and Robin unpack how to stop reacting to "that person" and start getting curious, why explaining your why defuses conflict before it starts, and how the same skills that save a team meeting save a marriage, a friendship, and a conversation with your kid. Unfinished Business: The Open Loops That Drain You

This is the 100th episode of The Liberated Life. A hundred conversations about freeing yourself from what quietly drains you — and this one is about the thing underneath all of them: closing what needs an ending. One morning I went live, said what I came to say — and then couldn't find the button to end it. The control was hidden behind something else on the screen. So I did what capable, overwhelmed people do with the things they can't figure out how to close: I shut the laptop and hoped it had ended itself in the background. It didn't. It kept running. Still live, still draining — even after I looked away. That hidden button has a name. It's an open loop: a conversation, a promise, a decision, or a commitment that needed an ending and didn't get one. In this episode, I walk through what Open Loops are, why they cost you far more than their size, and how to close one. In this episode: • Why the things we walk away from keep running in the background • What an Open Loop actually is — and why a five-minute task can take up five days of your head • The four types: task, decision, relational (the "Unspoken Broken"), and self • How Open Loops get created (a late-night FaceTime from Australia taught me mine) • CLOSE — a simple way to close a loop on purpose: Capture, Locate, Observe, Speak, End/Evolve/Honor • PEACE — how to have the conversation when the loop is between you and someone else You don't have to overhaul your life. Pick your loudest Open Loop. Close it. That's where your energy comes back.
