Roman Harper: Drew Brees, Ole Miss football, and the state of college football

Send us Fan Mail One SEC ruling just put a hard boundary on a new college football reality: you don’t get to declare for the NFL draft, spend time in a pro locker room, and then slide back into the conference when the next opportunity looks better. We dig into the Daquan Wright and Xavier Thomas situation and what the SEC’s stance signals about eligibility, roster management, and the slippery incentives created by NIL and the transfer portal. Roman Harper joins us with a player’s eye for consequences and development. He explains why “the grind” matters, why an easy out can stall growth, and how an NFL front office might judge a guy who leaves camp before cuts. We also talk about the locker room side people ignore, including how late roster adds can change reps, leadership, and morale for teammates who have been battling since winter workouts. From there, we hit the stories that remind you why sports still connects people: Drew Brees’ Hall of Fame moment and what it meant to the Saints family, plus Roman’s first trip to Omaha for the College World Series and why that event feels like pure baseball culture. Then we bring it back to the SEC race with Pete Golding, Ole Miss expectations, and how a brutal schedule can make a good team look ordinary. If you care about SEC football, college football rules, and what really wins games, you’ll get both big-picture context and real on-field detail, including Roman’s “tackle plan” and “plaster rules” breakdown. Subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review with your take: should the SEC ever allow draft returners back into college? Cardinals At Midseason: Rebuild Reality Meets Playoff Math

Send us Fan Mail The Cardinals are 45-39, the All-Star break is creeping closer, and the vibes are somehow both optimistic and exhausted. We sit down and ask the question that’s making every St. Louis Cardinals fan argue in the comments: when a “rebuilding year” turns into meaningful games in July, do you push your chips in at the MLB trade deadline or do you stand pat and protect the long-term plan? We dig into what’s actually realistic to change right now, from the bullpen issues that keep turning wins into losses to the uncomfortable truth that there may not be many clean trade options. We also get into the debates that matter most for roster direction: what a young lineup means for patience, how to think about players like Lars Nootbaar, what Jordan Walker’s breakout signals, and why internal development might be more valuable than a splashy move. Along the way, we talk about Ollie Marmol, clubhouse buy-in, and how a team learns to win while it’s still growing up. Then we zoom out to the bigger storm cloud hovering over the whole league: the next MLB collective bargaining agreement and the possibility of a lockout. If the rules of spending and roster building change, the Cardinals’ strategy could change with it, which makes the MLB Draft and that 13th overall pick feel even more important. We close with what’s next on the schedule, why the Cubs and Brewers stretch is pivotal, and how fans can show support with All-Star voting. If you enjoyed the conversation, subscribe, share it with a Cardinals fan who needs to hear it, and leave a quick review so more people can find the show. What would you do at the deadline: make a move or ride it out? Brycen Sanders| FULL EPISODE| Ole Miss, College football playoff run, and the essence of loyalty

Send us Fan Mail You can tell a lot about a team by how its center talks about pressure, criticism, and the plays nobody notices until something goes wrong. We’re joined by Ole Miss starting center Brycenn Sanders, a Chattanooga native heading into his fourth year in Oxford, and he doesn’t dodge the hard parts: waiting years for a starting job, fighting self-doubt, and learning how to lead when you’re naturally quiet. We talk injury recovery and the reality of getting back on the field after shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff, plus how Bryson used spring practice to grow without taking reps. He explains what it’s like to become “more of a coach” during spring ball, helping freshmen and transfers learn a fast offense. If you care about offensive line play, player development, or SEC football prep, you’ll take notes here. From there we get into loyalty in the transfer portal era, the brotherhood of an offensive line that takes the blame first, and the mindset shift that helped him stop being his own biggest critic. Brycenn also shares what he learned from a college football playoff run, what stands out about working with quarterbacks like Austin Simmons and Trinidad Chambliss, and the discipline behind a scramble play block that went viral because it avoided a flag. Subscribe for more Ole Miss interviews, share this with a football fan who loves the trenches, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway.
