'Revisiting the Oscars' is a movie podcast that looks back at the Oscars over the past 50 years, revisiting the highs and the lows through a discussion about the films nominated for the coveted 'Best Picture' award over the years, with each episode covering one year in film history. On this episode we'll be looking at the relationships that form between British colonials and Indian locals in A Passage to India, Sally Field trying to make a living in rural Texas in Places of the Heart, a murder mystery set in a Black only army regiment in A Soldier's Story, the story of a friendship formed amidst the Cambodian genocide in The Killing Fields and rival composers in 1700s Vienna in Amadeus.     Episode 37: 1995 - Braveheart

    It's the one you've all been waiting for as 2 Scots and an Englishman tackle the story (or not as the case may be!) of William Wallace in Mel Gibson's historical Scottish epic Braveheart! That of course means its 1995, a year at the heart of the Britpop scene with some cracking movies to match out in the cinema. Alongside discussing the merits of Braveheart, its cultural impact and benefits to the Stirling tourism scene we also have a couple of rarities with a non-English language film in Il Postino (The Postman) and a children's film in Babe. Emma Thompson makes her second podcast appearance with Sense and Sensibility, another British period drama - will this one charm us any more than all the others we've seen so far?! And of course we're also looking back at Apollo 13, Ron Howard's docudrama about the disastrous space mission of the same name, led by Tom Hanks at the peak of his powers.
