James Mulvaney: The power and possibilities of internet radio

What can internet radio do that traditional radio can't? And how are businesses finding new and unexpected ways to use audio to connect with people? In this episode of Signal, I speak to James Mulvaney, founder of Broadcast.co Group, a collection of businesses working across internet radio, podcasting and audio technology. James got his start in radio as a teenager, broadcasting from his bedroom before turning his interest in internet radio into a business. Today, his group includes Radio.co, a platform that makes it easy to launch and manage online radio stations, Podcast.co, a podcast hosting platform, Q Productions and MatchMaker.fm. We talk about the evolution of internet radio, from bedroom broadcasters and niche music communities to its increasingly inventive applications in the corporate world. James explains how businesses like Next are using dedicated radio stations to engage employees who aren't tied to a desk, and how brands, music festivals and even the Channel Tunnel are using audio to communicate with their audiences. We also explore why radio continues to hold its own in a screen-dominated world, the unique sense of companionship and connection that audio creates, and what's next for James and his growing collection of audio businesses. In this episode, we discuss: How James went from broadcasting to a handful of listeners as a teenager to building a group of audio businesses. The rise of internet radio and how it has opened up broadcasting to almost anyone. How companies are using dedicated radio stations to engage, entertain and communicate with their workforces. The creative possibilities of online radio for music brands, festivals and niche communities. Why audio offers a different kind of human connection in an increasingly screen-focused world. How Radio.co and Podcast.co make broadcasting and podcasting more accessible. The future of radio technology, including hybrid broadcasting and James's latest venture, Playout.co.Find out more about James and his businesses: Radio.coPodcast.coMatchMaker.fmConnect with James Mulvaney on LinkedIn.

World Mental Health Day Podcast Episode with Sandeep Saib

We’re proud to launch this special episode of our Janno Signal podcast, featuring Sandeep Saib, Senior Business Development Executive at CMS, in time for World Mental Health Day 2024.  Our longstanding partnership with CMS has seen us collaborate on many inspiring projects, including CMS’s This is Me mental health campaign. The theme for this year’s World Mental Health Day is ‘It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace’ and we couldn't be more grateful to have Sandeep join us to share her personal insights on mental health and wellbeing.  In this special episode, hosted by our very own Head of Podcasts, Sassy Clyde, Sandeep opens up about her own mental health journey, as well as her role as an advocate for mental health and suicide prevention across many groups and organisations. She also shares her thoughts on supporting mental health in the workplace.  This isn’t the first time we've had the pleasure of working with Sandeep - who guest-edited an edition of our weekly ContentED bulletin in January 2023, where she shared her personal experiences for Time to Talk Day, highlighting the importance of mental health and having much-needed conversations about it, to fight the stigma and discrimination that still exists in today’s world.  Sandeep’s honesty and courage have been inspirational for those navigating their own mental health challenges. We’re really grateful to her for contributing to this crucial conversation once again.  Don’t miss this heartfelt episode, launching today in honour of #WMHD2024. We hope to continue the dialogue on mental health and suicide prevention, making our workplaces and communities more supportive and understanding places for all.  Tune in here, we hope you enjoy the episode.  World Mental Health Day Hashtags:  #WMHD #WorldMentalHealthDay #WMHD2024 #WorkplaceMentalHealth #PrioritizeMentalHealthintheWorkplace #MentalHealthintheWorkplace #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #WorkplaceWellness #MentalHealthAdvocate Resources: Crisis support NHS (24 hours): 111 (select option 2 for mental health support)Samaritans (24 hours): 116 123 email jo@samaritans.org   Shout (24 hours):Text 85258CALM: Campaign Against Living Miserably (5pm – Midnight): 0800 58 58 58HOPELINE UK (9am – Midnight; service for under 35s): 0800 068 4141 or text 07860 039967, or email pat@papyrus-uk.orgGeneral emotional support Samaritans  They offer emotional support for people in a crisis, available 24 hours a day.  Telephone: 116123 Address: Freepost RSRB-KKBY-CYJK, P.O.
