The Museum of You: An Audio Guide

I recently read such an interesting reflection from The Drawing Center which discussed how, with museums shut down, new and unexpected platforms are taking their place. Many in the arts are giving great care to preparing and plating their foods, and cleaning their spaces - it’s the only curatorial respite we can find! This Museum of You is so in line with this exciting new way of thinking: it combines theater and performance, object curiosity, meditation, and imagination - all the trappings of the museums we miss so much! Better yet, it accesses the exquisite potential that museums have - a potential we have recently seen exposed as underused. Museums are about experience - so many beautiful ideas live within that, like memory, solitude, community, and inspiration...but our big institutions ignore so much of the sensation and experience of the individual. This show was a rich contrast to those standards, making the almost painfully obvious yet undiscussed point that every museum should be a museum of YOU. A second person narration experience is... wow. Definitely how I try to approach viewing spaces in general. This was like a 101 lesson on being a thoughtful viewer. Take your time, open your mind, and BREATHE. Looking forward to the next!

Delightful, surprising, and grounding. A wonderful way to find a new perspective on the home I’ve been stuck inside for months. Parts of it moved me to tears! So glad I went on this journey.
