The Visible Kindness Podcast

Ed Squire

Can kindness provide real solutions in a polarized and divided culture? If we paid more attention to it, would it make much of a difference? We believe the answer is, "Yes!" But we know we're more effective working together than alone, and something exponentially powerful happens when we do. In each episode, we share kindness stories, opportunities for kindness, and ways we can partner to serve more people.

EP 085: I Was Addicted to Porn for Decades

For decades, Ed Squire lived with a pornography addiction that began when he was just nine years old. He tried therapy. He attended groups. He tried to stop. But the addiction followed him through adulthood, marriage, and even his years serving as a youth leader in church. Then one day, while setting up camera equipment for a friend, a simple question changed everything: "What can I pray for?" For the first time, Ed admitted what he had been carrying privately for years. In this short and deeply personal Ed Solo episode of Visible Kindness, Ed talks candidly about addiction, the pain that can exist beneath it, his own connection between childhood trauma and addiction, and the unexpected 15-second prayer that became a turning point in his life. This isn't a formula for recovery or a claim that everyone's journey will look the same. It's simply Ed's story of struggle, faith, and finally finding freedom. Kindness is Strength. EP 084: She Refused to Stay Silent | Trauma, Healing & the Courage to Keep Going

What does healing really look like after trauma? In this powerful episode of Visible Kindness, Ed sits down with Mary Martin, a physical therapist, Pilates instructor, and founder of Accidentally Healthy. With more than 26 years of experience helping people heal physically, Mary has come to believe that true health is about far more than muscles and movement—it's about relationships, faith, community, and creating the conditions where healing can begin. Mary shares how witnessing heartbreaking conditions inside nursing homes during COVID changed the course of her life, why she's challenging traditional ideas about health, and how her family's journey supporting her niece through trauma has deepened her understanding of courage, advocacy, and hope. This conversation explores difficult topics with honesty while pointing toward healing, resilience, and kindness. In this episode: • Redefining what it means to be healthy • The hidden impact of trauma • Why healing involves the whole person • Lessons learned inside nursing homes during COVID • Supporting loved ones through unimaginable circumstances • Faith, family, and finding hope again No matter what you've walked through, this conversation is a reminder that healing is possible—and kindness still changes lives. EP 083: Visible Kindness Reflections | Grey's Anatomy Episode 1: Every Person Has a Story We Can't See

Thank you for listening and for being part of the Visible Kindness community. What if one of television's most popular dramas isn't really about medicine? Watching Grey's Anatomy for the first time surprised me. Beneath the hospital setting, I found something much deeper—people struggling to belong, trying to prove themselves, hiding fear behind confidence, and wondering if they were enough. In this first episode of Visible Kindness Reflections, I'm not reviewing the show. Instead, I'm sharing the life lessons it stirred within me and how they connect to my own journey through trauma, healing, faith, and kindness. I also tell the true story of a chance encounter with a woman outside a grocery store that forever changed how I look at strangers and first impressions. Every person we meet has a story that's still being written. Maybe the greatest act of kindness is choosing to see beyond what appears on the surface. In this episode: Why so many of us feel we have to earn our worth The hidden struggles behind confidence and perfection Why first impressions are often incomplete A true story that reshaped my understanding of kindness This week's Visible Kindness Challenge Reflection Question Who have you already decided you understand... when perhaps you've only seen one chapter of their story? If this reflection encouraged you, I'd love for you to subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with someone who could use a reminder that kindness still matters. About Visible Kindness Reflections Visible Kindness Reflections is a series where stories from books, films, television, and everyday life become conversations about healing, faith, resilience, kindness, and authentic human connection. These aren't reviews or recaps. They're invitations to pause, reflect, and see ourselves—and each other—a little differently. Kindness is Strength. Your Story Matters. EP 081: What Did Jesus Mean by "Love Your Neighbor as Yourself"? | Ed Squire

Jesus said the second greatest commandment is this: "Love your neighbor as yourself." But what did He actually mean? In this solo episode of Visible Kindness, Ed explores one of the most familiar teachings in Scripture and challenges a common modern assumption—that Jesus was teaching us to love ourselves first before we can love others. Drawing from Matthew 22, Luke 10, and the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Ed examines what Jesus said, what He didn't say, and why understanding the difference matters. As a survivor of significant trauma, Ed also shares how shame, guilt, and a distorted self-image affected his understanding of this passage for many years. Through Scripture, he discovered a powerful truth: Perhaps loving ourselves biblically isn't about self-esteem. Perhaps it's about seeing ourselves the way God sees us—adopted, forgiven, redeemed, and loved. This episode is a thoughtful conversation about faith, identity, grace, healing, and what it truly means to love our neighbors. Kindness is Strength. Your Story Matters.
