Send us Fan Mail A Father’s Love Hello and welcome to Spiritual Warriors, the Caregivers. This is Episode 16 in our series on Spiritual Warfare. If you are a caregiver, you are a spiritual warrior. We want to encourage you in your walk with God and remind you that he is with you, for he said, I will never leave you nor forsake you. Hebrews 13. Verse 5, part b. My name is Dr. Stephanie Wright, and today’s episode is about a father who was an amazing caregiver. It is entitled “A Father’s Love.” Our scripture reading is from Mark 9:20-29. 20 And they brought the young man to Jesus: and when He saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. 21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. 22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. 23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. 26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. 27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. 28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. We don’t know how old the son was in this scripture, but verse 21 tells us he was tormented from childhood. Then verses 25 and 26 tell us he was tormented by an evil spirit. So, it appears that for a number of years this father was a caregiver to this young man who had been throwing himself into fire and into water. He also witnessed his son foaming at the mouth and gnashing his teeth, and witnessed other attacks on his son’s body. This is a father with a profound amount of love as a caregiver. That love is what we want to focus on today because only love can sustain a caregiver through the ravages waged against their loved ones’ bodies, minds, and souls. Yes, every caregiver must pray, fast, and have faith that their loved one can be miraculously delivered like the young man in our scripture. But love is key to continuing the fight for those we care for until they are delivered, no matter what we see and hear. Continue in the caregiving work that you do. Those who are not in this daily fight don’t fully understand what you are going through. So be kind to yourself while you extend kindness to those you care for.
