    Knowing the Different QCP Licenses

    Knowing the Different QCP Licenses

In this podcast, Randy Estabrook, Executive Director of AWI-QCP, chats to his colleague Greg Parham, Director of Inspections. They talk about how Greg got into woodworking and ultimately became a director at QCP, and touch on the Architectural Woodwork Standards.

The main focus of this podcast, however, is on the different types of QCP licenses a woodworking firm can apply for. Randy and Greg discuss how the different licenses are broken out, and what the individual licenses mean for woodworking firms. They uncover the licensing application process, including the testing method and how to provide references, and discuss how a woodworking firm can know which license they might need.

    Changes to the AWI standards

    Changes to the AWI standards

Randy Estabrook, Executive Director of AWI-QCP, talks to Zach Deas, owner of Deas Millwork of Semmes, AL and current chair of AWI-QCP’s board of directors.

They discuss the Architectural Woodwork Standards (AWS), the changes that AWI is currently making, and the next segment of development of the standards.

AWI is now focusing on the structural integrity of interior woodwork and finishes rather than seeking prescriptive requirements. The aim is to allow for flexibility in following specific criteria for performance and quality when purchasing, manufacturing, or installing architectural woodwork.

    What is AWI-QCP?

    What is AWI-QCP?

Randy Estabrook, Executive Director of AWI-QCP, discusses what AWI-QCP is. He looks back at the origins of the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) and what happened when the first quality standards were created back in 1961. These standards eventually became the AWI’s Quality Certification Program (AWI-QCP), which was incorporated in 1995.

Randy also addresses some of the misconceptions about QCP and the differences between membership of AWI and becoming a QCP-licensed woodworking firm.

Saved by the Architectural Woodwork Standards: An Interview with Grant Golightly

Randy Estabrook, Executive Director of AWI-QCP, talks to Grant Golightly, architect at Design West Architects in Salt Lake City, UT.

They discuss Grant’s recent multi-million dollar project with the Salt Lake Mosquito Abatement District, a new campus where millwork was an important aspect of the interior design. They also talk about how Grant was saved by the Architectural Woodwork Standards (AWS) when he found some non-conformances in the woodwork. He was able to get recourse via QCP at no cost to himself or the client.
