    1066 The Battle Nowhere Near Hastings (or Episode 117)

    Are your Tapestry fingers tingling? They should be...because it's here! 1066 and ALL of that! An ill wind blows William the Conqueror (cough spoiler) and his army of awful Normans right onto the big bottom of England. Can Sweet Harold G march really fast and to stop them...or will this prove one battle too far for England's greatest tash! Well you probably know what's going to happen...but you might get ONE IN THE EYE with some facts that's won't be in your school books! Knights, Huscarls. Crack Saracen Archers, Shield walls, Panicky Fyrd, and some suspiciously Welsh Bretons are all part of this very silly Tapestry...that is our longest episode yet!* Ta to Puremusic!     1066 Problems but a Bridge ain’t one…(or Episode 116)

    It’s a tale of Berserkers, bridges and brothers in the second instalment of our 1066 Epic!   William of Normandy and all the Knights of France are poised to invade Anglo Saxon England…trouble is they’ve got wind…but it’s the wrong sort of wind! Which means the Normans can’t invade…so nothing to see here then? NO! VIKINGS! TEN THOUSAND OF THEM! On Raven’s Wings the Horde of Harald Hardrada is descending on the North…and you know what? The North of England likes Vikings. It doesn’t like Tostig much but he’s come along for the ride! Sweet Harry G and his Huscarl’s are gonna have to get their skates on or they’ll miss the Battle of Stamford Bridge and all the tanning that goes on before hand! And hopefully the Normans won’t invade while Harold is at the other end of the country…* Thanks to Scotty Buckley for music and Zapsplat for sfx & music *its not spoiler to say they will! But thats next time!

    Hello listener and welcome to a special podcast brought to you by the Silly History boys show in association with the nice people at the Rubbish Shakespeare Company AND the arts council of England.   These special episodes come from the Story Forge stage show that me (your Dear Uncle Bob Bob) have been performing with Wicked Cousin Lee up and down the country in 2025, thanks to support from the nice people at Arts Council England.   The Story Forge show is a piece of spontaneously sweaty theatre made from mad cap suggestions  from our baying audiences.   Every show has been special but some of the stories that those wild young minds have created  have been so special that we just had to show you! They really could be actual myths…except they’re not   So the following tale was created live and sweatily on stage and featured a member of our audience as the titular hero!    So sit back and enjoy…the tale of Marcus…the wide knowing.
