    The Paranoid Squirrel ep 1089

Acweorna! Episode 1089 comes rattling out of the Squirrel Dray with a non-LP punk classic from 1980 before heading into post-Stiv territory, Dead Boys connections and Covers Corner. There are songs swapping bands, a Metal vocalist tackling the Sex Pistols, a much-loved two-minute punk classic given a fresh coat of rock ’n’ roll paint, news from next April’s Savage Magic Records Euro Showcase in Cologne and a selection of new releases covering punk, power pop, garage rock and full-throttle guitar noise. The show was pre-recorded as Griff and I were up at London’s legendary 100 Club for a rather special album-launch gig—something you’ll undoubtedly hear much more about next week. And, lurking beyond the radio edition, this week’s Last Nut takes us back to another memorable night at the 100 Club nearly 19 years ago, courtesy of one of my own suitably enthusiastic audience recordings. The Paranoid Squirrel ep 1088

Acweorna! This is a slightly different edition of The Paranoid Squirrel. In place of the usual Sunday repeat, I’m handing the keys to the Squirrel Dray over to the artists featured on the ‘Locals 2026’ compilation LP, collated by Bob Kitcher. Showcasing original music from Beckenham, Penge, Bromley and Sydenham, the album was made possible with support from Southey Brewing Co and Three Hounds Beer Company. Before tackling the record itself, Status Quo ease us into proceedings with a nod to their Beckenham connections. We then hear both sides of ‘Locals 2026’ in full: 01 Status Quo – Down Down 02 Zoe Webster – Captain in the Sea 03 The Zorbs – Space Invader 04 Duncan Farmer – Shattered 05 Erika Steenkamp – Julietta 06 The Unready – Narrows 07 Adam Croft – I Can’t Deny 08 Dead Beat Poets – Monster Rat 09 Matt Donovan – Never Far 10 Bob Kitcher – Playing in the Sun 11 The Ferrets – BR3 12 David Bowie – Memory of a Free Festival Along the way, there’s local musical interconnectedness, a Ukrainian refugee’s story, intergalactic shenanigans, a murderous rat and a suitably postcode-friendly finale. David Bowie then brings our tour of the area to an appropriately Beckenham conclusion. The ‘Locals 2026’ LP and CD can be purchased in person from The Bricklayers Arms or Southey Brewing Co. If they’re slightly outside your orbit, contact Bob Kitcher through social media or email robertkitcher@yahoo.com. Local musicians, local businesses and entirely original material—this is what the locals sound like in 2026.

    The Paranoid Squirrel ep 1087

Acweorna! Episode 1087 finds The Paranoid Squirrel rummaging through the Squirrel Dray for another hour of new and classic stuff, forgotten gems, Covers Corner and musical interconnectedness. With the final Bank Holiday of the summer disappearing in the rear-view mirror, Seventeen provide an appropriately unruly soundtrack before Andy Blade & Derwood, Sugar Rats, Kurt Baker, Geoff Palmer, Pat Todd and the Rankoutsiders, Anti-Fashion, Phil Cook & The Fall Dogs and Guitar Gangsters join the proceedings. Covers Corner brings us The Offspring tackling the Ramones, a pair of vintage Woolworths soundalikes impersonating Slade and T-Rex, plus Slaughter & The Dogs paying tribute to David Bowie. NY Loose and The Sinclairs help bring the Radio Edition to a suitably noisy conclusion. As always, remain on board after the outro for this week’s “Last Nut”—a live recording of a brand-new song from an album that hasn’t even been released yet. The Paranoid Squirrel ep 1086

Acweorna! This week we discover that sometimes I’ve heard a song before without actually realising it, which sends us from 20/20 to Professor and The Madman and onwards to Sweden’s Skallbank, one of the bands I’ll hopefully be seeing at next year’s Savage Magic Showcase in Cologne. There’s “100 Years of Punk Rock” courtesy of C**k Sparrer and Die Toten Hosen, with the latter opening the doors to Covers Corner. Punk veterans Andy Blade and Derwood join forces, before Cats become Rats and then Sugar Rats, as Willie Dowling’s latest somehow provides another excuse for some Squirrel musical interconnectedness. Elsewhere there’s brand-new music from The Speedways, Glitter Kick and 2Sevens, Richie Ramone gets dusted off for another spin, Vince Lightning and the Thunderboltz provide some local Rock ’n’ Roll, Kurt Baker goes rummaging through both his own and Slade’s past, and Hard-Ons team up with Poison Idea’s Jerry A. And when the Radio Edition finishes, don’t go anywhere... “The Last Nut” this week is something genuinely special: a rehearsal recording, aired with permission, that you’re extremely unlikely to hear anywhere else. Another hour of Punk, Junk & Glunk — new stuff, classic stuff, forgotten gems and a few musical detours along the way. 01 The Lifetakers – Giftshop – The Lifetakers ep – Self Released 02 20/20 – Nuclear Boy - 03 Skallbank – Vakna Upp – Digital Release 04 C**k Sparrer – Frontline Heroes – True To The Bone – JKP Records 05 Die Toten Hosen – I’m So Bored With The USA – True To The Bone – JKP Records 06 Kurt Baker – When Fantasy Calls – Wonder Woman – Wick Cool Records 07 Andy Blade & Derwood – Cat In The Bag – Cat In The Bag/Junk Shop Saddle – Cherry Red Records 08 Willie Dowling – Rats In The Maze – 369 Music 09 Sugar Rats – King Kong – I F****d Up – Sugar Ratcords 10 The Speedways – All Bets Are Off – All Bets Are Off 7” – Stardumb/Beluga Records 11 Glitter Kicks – Single – Make The Rainbow Sing – TBC 12 Richie Ramone – I Fix This – Cellophane – DC-Jam Records 13 Vince Lightning and the Thunderboltz – Jealousy – Veni, Vendi, Vincey – Bandcamp 14 2Sevens – Shut Down The World – Shut Down The World – Self Released 15 Hard-Ons/Jerry A – Radio Blah – Hard Ons/Jerry A – American Leather Records 16 The Last Nut – Stream or Download to find out

Acweorna! 🐿️ This week’s hour of Punk, Junk & Glunk takes in brand new releases, forthcoming albums, punk rock history, forgotten gems, gig and tour news, a bit of Beckenham interconnectedness and the usual musical rabbit holes that somehow lead from one record to another. The Paranoid Squirrel ep 1084

Acweorna! Episode 1084 of The Paranoid Squirrel is packed with another hour of Punk, Junk & Glunk, mixing brand-new releases with classics, covers, lost demos and a fair amount of musical interconnectedness. There’s also new music, forthcoming album and gig news, a demo rescued from 1987, plenty of Beatles-related coincidences and the usual stories and diversions along the way. And when you think it’s all over, don’t switch off just yet. After the outro there’s one final musical treat waiting for you... The Last Nut.
