    Friends of the Rosary, Christ the Lord was challenged by the Pharisees, being asked why he didn't encourage fasting among his followers, as we read today (Luke 5:33-39). His answer, in typical Jewish style, came with another question: “Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?”This image of the wedding feast appears frequently in the New Testament, most notably in the Cana wedding narrative. Jesus is the wedding of heaven and earth, the marriage of divinity and humanity. Christ is the bridegroom, and the Church is the bride. In him, the most intimate union is achieved between God and the world. Also, in the same passage, Jesus teaches that His presence brings something new: new wine needs fresh wineskins, inviting us to renew the container of our lives. In this regard, the Psalm calls us to trust in the Lord, commit our way to Him, and take refuge in Him. The outcome is not to seek new grace while clinging tightly to old habits and old fears.     Friends of the Rosary, Today, the Memorial of Saint Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church, and Saint Paul (1 Corinthians 3:18-23) remind us not to rely on worldly wisdom or boast in human leaders, because everything belongs to Christ. Also, the Psalm (Psalm 24:1bc-2, 3-4ab, 5-6) teaches that the whole earth belongs to the Lord, and those who seek Him must come with clean hands and a pure heart. In the Gospel (Luke 5:1-11), Peter obeys Jesus, and after a fruitless night, receives an overwhelming catch, and he follows Him. Today’s lesson points to trusting Jesus and lowering the nets again.     Friends of the Rosary, In the Gospel (Luke 4:38-44), Jesus heals Simon’s mother-in-law and many others, then continues His mission of preaching the Kingdom of God. Meanwhile, Saint Paul (1 Corinthians 3:1-9) warns against jealousy, rivalry, and attachment to human leaders rather than to God. One person plants, another waters, but God gives the growth. We must let God be the one who gives the growth. We can serve, help, pray, and work, but the fruit belongs to Him. Jesus heals, restores, and sends us beyond comfort into mission. As the Psalm reminds (Psalm 33:12-13, 14-15, 20-21), the Lord sees every heart and is the true help of His people. Prayer for tomorrow: Lord Jesus, heal what is weak in me and free me from jealousy or pride. Help me serve faithfully, trust You with the growth, and follow You wherever Your mission leads.     Friends of the Rosary, It's not possible to understand the mind of Christ by human reasoning. Saint Paul says (1 Corinthians 2:10b-16) that the things of the Divinity are understood through the Spirit. God’s Spirit helps us recognize what is true. Jesus’ word has real power to free, heal, and command the darkness to leave. Therefore, we ask to be filled with His Spirit. Helping us understand what comes from God, trusting His authority, and letting His word bring freedom and peace into our lives. As in the Psalm today, we praise the Lord as gracious, merciful, faithful, and just.Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary!     August 31, 2026, Saints Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, Holy Rosary (Joyful Mysteries)

    Friends of the Rosary, In the Gospel today (Luke 4:16-30), Jesus, while facing resistance from his own townspeople, announces His mission: good news to the poor, freedom to captives, sight to the blind, and liberty for the oppressed. We are invited to receive Jesus as He truly comes, not only as we expect Him to come. God’s word may challenge familiar ideas, but it also brings freedom, healing, and truth. Meanwhile, Saint Paul, in the first reading (1 Corinthians 2:1-5) reminds us that faith does not rest on clever words or human wisdom, but on the power of God. The Psalm teaches love for God’s commands, not as a burden, but as wisdom and guidance. As a prayer for today, we ask Lord Jesus to open our hearts to His word. Help us trust not in human wisdom, but in His power. Give us humility to receive Him, courage to follow Him, and love for His commands. Also today, the Roman Martyrology commemorates Saints Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, who showed courage and devotion to Christ after His death. Joseph, a "noble counselor" and disciple of the Lord, awaiting the kingdom of God, went to Pilate to ask for Jesus' body. Nicodemus, who once came to Christ secretly, now came openly, bringing myrrh and aloes. He was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin, which was the ruling body of the Jews. He came to Jesus at night asking questions about his mission. In the presence of the Sanhedrin, who wanted to seize Jesus, Nicodemus defended his cause. They are mentioned in the Gospels. They received the dead body of Jesus, deposited from the cross, wrapped it in linen, and placed it in a tomb owned by Joseph. Together, they offered Christ a dignified burial, acting out of love when others had withdrawn in fear. Their actions, though simple in appearance, were precious before God and became part of the path to the Resurrection. Their example teaches that love for Christ must move us to act with courage and faith, even when it is difficult or uncertain. Like them, we are called to bring what we have to Christ and serve Him with humility, trusting that He receives every offering and fills it with His grace.     Friends of the Rosary, In today's Gospel, from Matthew 16:21-27, we learn that because sin entered into the world before the Incarnation took place, the Son of God in his human nature had to suffer the violent death of the cross at the hands of sinners. "Jesus began to show his disciplesthat he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatlyfrom the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,and be killed and on the third day be raised." From all eternity, this was God's plan for mankind. Jesus came to die in the Cross. In this very suffering, the Lord became the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world, as the Second Isaiah had foretold in his "suffering servant" prophecies (Is. 53: 1-7; 42: 1-9, etc). His death, because he was God as well as man, was a sacrifice, an atonement, to obtain forgiveness from the Father for all the sins of the human race. In today's reading, we see how Christ intends to prepare his disciples and other followers for what he knew would be a severe crisis of faith for them. He also told them — and through them, all of us — what their attitude to suffering and death should be. "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,take up his cross, and follow me.For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it."     August 29, 2026, Feast of Passion of St. John the Baptist, Holy Rosary (Joyful Mysteries)

    Friends of the Rosary, Today, August 29, 2026, is the Memorial of the Passion of Saint John the Baptist. The precursor of Christ shows us a life completely given to God: humble, brave, and unwilling to compromise with sin. In the Gospel (Mark 6:17–29), John the Baptist suffers death because he speaks the truth —the truth of marriage in this case —with courage. Meanwhile, Saint Paul (1 Corinthians 1:26–31) reminds us that God chooses the weak, humble, and lowly so that no one may boast except in the Lord. In our Saturday prayer, we ask the Lord Jesus to give us the courage of Saint John the Baptist, helping us to speak truth with love, stay humble before Him, and remain faithful even when it is difficult.     August 28, 2026, Feast of St. Augustine, Holy Rosary (Sorrowful Mysteries)

    Friends of the Rosary, Today, August 28, the Catholic world celebrates the Memorial of St. Augustine (354-430), Bishop and Doctor of the Church, a great luminary in Christianity, the founder of the Augustinians, and the son of St. Monica. The tears of his mother, the sanctity of Milan's Bishop Ambrose, the book of St. Anthony the hermit, and the sacred Scriptures wrought his conversion — metanoia. Augustine's mother went to Milan with joy and witnessed her son's baptism on Easter night 387. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, at the age of 41, saw how the human heart is created with a great abyss, since the earthly satisfactions are very insufficient. "Restless is the heart until it rests in God," he wrote. Augustine received the grace of being one of the most penetrating minds of ancient Christendom and the Church's most influential theologian, with an inexhaustible spirituality. His books, Confessions and The City of God, are a worthy memorial to his genius, a philosophy of history. Edifying are also his homilies, especially those on the psalms and on the Gospel of St. John. Augustine's episcopal life was filled with mighty battles against heretics, over all of whom he triumphed. His most illustrious victory was that over Pelagius, who denied the necessity of grace; from this encounter, he earned the surname "Doctor of grace."
