    Growing Mediums Explained: Living Soil, Coco, DWC, NFT & More | Which Is Best for Beginners? | Grow Guides S3 Ep. 4

    Welcome back to Grow Guides! In Episode 4 of our 50-part series, we're looking at the different growing mediums available and helping you decide which one is right for your first cannabis grow. There are plenty of ways to grow cannabis, and each growing medium comes with its own advantages, disadvantages and demands. Some are relatively hands-off, while others require regular attention and a much closer eye on what your plants are doing. This week, we break down the most popular growing methods, including: Living Soil: Growing with a living ecosystem that does much of the work for you. Super Soil: Nutrient-rich soil mixes designed to provide much of what your plants need throughout their life cycle. Coco Coir: A popular growing medium that offers excellent control but requires more regular feeding and watering. DWC (Deep Water Culture): Growing with the plant's roots suspended in an oxygenated nutrient solution. NFT (Nutrient Film Technique): A hydroponic system that continuously delivers a thin stream of nutrient solution to the roots. And we'll look at other growing methods along the way! But we don't just explain what each medium is. We also discuss one of the most important considerations when choosing how to grow: how much time and attention does it actually take? We compare the daily maintenance involved, how easy each method is to manage, how quickly problems can be spotted and corrected, and which methods are likely to suit someone growing cannabis for the very first time. Should a beginner start with living soil? Is coco worth the extra work? Are hydroponic systems too complicated for a first grow? Or is there another option that makes more sense?     Cannabis News: Can Cannabis Cure Cancer? Hemp Legalisation in Europe, DEA Rules, Rescheduling & Cannabis and Sleep

    In this week’s episode of High on Home Grown, we dive into five very different cannabis stories from around the world, covering medical research, regulation, the future of the industry and some long-held beliefs about cannabis. Macky looks at one of the biggest questions surrounding cannabis and medicine: can cannabis or CBD oil actually cure cancer? We look at what the scientific evidence says, what cannabis may be useful for, and why claims that cannabis can cure cancer need to be treated very carefully. Smee looks at the ongoing debate around cannabis rescheduling in the United States and whether changes to federal cannabis policy could leave smaller and social-equity operators struggling to compete with larger companies. Could the legal cannabis industry become increasingly dominated by big businesses? Billy takes us over to Europe, where the whole hemp plant could soon receive recognition as an agricultural crop under EU rules. However, individual member states would still retain powers that could allow them to criminalise aspects of hemp production. We look at what this could mean for European hemp growers and the wider industry. John has a story from the US involving the DEA and cannabis businesses operating in states with both medical and recreational licensing. The DEA has reportedly refused to approve some marijuana businesses in states where the two licensing systems operate alongside each other, creating another complication between state-level cannabis laws and federal regulation. Margaret looks at a fascinating 35-year study examining cannabis and sleep. Cannabis has long been associated with helping people sleep, but the research challenges the idea that marijuana is necessarily beneficial for long-term sleep quality. We dig into what the study actually found and whether the popular belief about cannabis and sleep holds up.     High on Home Grown Halloween Special: Scary Stories, Horror Movies & The Burning

    It's Halloween on High on Home Grown! This week we're putting the cannabis news and growing talk to one side for a special Halloween episode, where each of us brings along a scary story to share.     New Research Challenges Cannabis & Violence Claims, Indentured Servitude in the UK, £500k Grower Sentenced, European Medical Cannabis Industry Rapidly Increasing, Study on Prenatal Cannabis Exposure

    In this week’s episode of High on Home Grown, we dive into the latest cannabis stories from around the world, including new research challenging claims about cannabis and violence, a controversial UK sentencing, and some interesting developments in the European medical cannabis industry. Macky looks at new research examining the claim that cannabis makes people more violent. The study challenges some of the recent headlines suggesting a direct link between cannabis use and violent behaviour, and we take a closer look at what the evidence actually tells us. Smee brings us a story from Cumbria, where a cannabis grower was sentenced after police discovered a commercial-scale operation worth around £500,000. The case also attracted attention after the judge apologised to the defendant for the timing of his sentence, which was handed down on his birthday. Billy has two short stories from the European cannabis industry. We look at the rapidly increasing movement of medical cannabis from Portugal into Spain, before turning to Cronos and its acquisition of a cannabis producer in the Netherlands connected to the country's ongoing cannabis trial. Two stories, but both highlighting how quickly the European medical cannabis market continues to develop. John is taking the week off, so unfortunately we're John-free this time around!     Aaron Zeeman: Preserving Hawaii’s Lost Cannabis Genetics & The Hemp Ritual Handbook

    This week on High on Home Grown, we’re joined by Aaron “Professor Potgrower” Zeeman, a Hawaii-based cannabis breeder, author and cannabis culture advocate. Aaron has spent more than 30 years in Hawaii and founded Big Island Genetics, where he works to preserve and breed Hawaiian heirloom cannabis genetics. Aaron joins us to talk about his book, The Hemp Ritual Handbook, a fascinating look at the culture, history and traditions that have surrounded cannabis for generations.     Cannabis Use Disorder in Older Adults Increases? £1.1m Grow Bust, Hemp THC Ban & Cannabis Used Linked to Violence... Apparently Cannabis News 230

    n this week’s episode of High on Home Grown, we dive into some of the biggest cannabis stories making headlines around the world: Macky looks at new research into cannabis use among older adults in the US. The study found that cannabis use is becoming increasingly common among people aged 65 and over, with 11.4% of older cannabis users meeting the criteria for cannabis use disorder. Smee brings us a story from Bedfordshire, where three men have been jailed after turning a former pub into a large-scale cannabis growing operation. Police discovered 13 cultivation rooms containing more than 1,200 mature cannabis plants, with the crop estimated to be worth up to £1.1 million. The three men received a combined sentence of more than 18 years. Billy is unfortunately not well this week, so we're flying one man down! John takes us over to the US, where the $28 billion hemp-derived THC industry is fighting to avoid a looming federal ban. With new federal restrictions threatening to seriously impact the industry, businesses are pushing for regulation rather than an outright ban. Margaret looks at a major review from researchers at King's College London examining the relationship between cannabis use and violence. The review analysed 63 studies involving more than 265,000 people and found an association between cannabis use and an increased likelihood of both committing and experiencing violence. The researchers also stress that an association does not by itself prove that cannabis is the cause. Another week, another pile of cannabis stories for us to get stuck into.
