Kaiden Argueta, the newest guard at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, joins Kurt & Chelsie just moments after coming off the floor at the showcase... and this time, he brings his father along for the conversation. For Kurt, it's a reunion of sorts. After calling Kaiden's games during his time at St. John’s College High School and in the WCAC, Kurt will now get a chance to follow the next chapter of his career as Kaiden makes the move to St. Andrew’s. And it's a big chapter. Kaiden is heading into that all-important jump from sophomore to junior year... a summer when development, exposure and preparation begin to take on an entirely different meaning for a player with aspirations of competing at the next level. We talk about his summer on the basketball circuit, his performance at the PSB High Academic Showcase, what he's been working on and, most importantly, the expectations Kaiden has for himself heading into the upcoming season. The move from St. John's to St. Andrew's also means a different role and a new opportunity. Kaiden discusses what went into the transition, what he's looking forward to with his new program and how he plans to make his mark as he settles into his junior season. Having his father join us gives us another perspective on the journey — the work that happens away from the spotlight, the decisions that come with navigating high school basketball and what the family hopes to see from Kaiden as this next phase begins. Fresh off of success at Notre Dame of Maryland University, Coach TJ Jordan has now turned his attention to building something special at McDaniel College. And when we say new chapter, we mean it. Coach Jordan was just a couple of weeks into the job when he made his way to Stevenson University and sat down with Kurt & Chelsie. One thing immediately stood out to us: you don't see a lot of college head coaches personally attending showcases. There are only so many hours in a day, especially when you're taking over a new program. But for Coach Jordan, the PSB High Academic Showcase was important enough to be there himself. That tells you something about the approach he's bringing to McDaniel. Coach Jordan talks about making the move from Notre Dame of Maryland, what he learned from the success he helped create there and how those experiences are shaping his vision for McDaniel men's basketball. We get into the early days of taking over a college program... evaluating what you already have, establishing a culture and, of course, recruiting the players who fit what you're trying to build. And that's exactly why an event like the High Academic Showcase matters. Coach Jordan discusses what catches his eye when he's evaluating prospective student-athletes and why finding the right fit, both on the basketball court, and in the classroom — is such an important part of building a successful college program. Coach Matt Miller of Lebanon Valley College joins Kurt & Chelsie for a conversation that starts with nearly 20 years of shared basketball history. Long before the podcast, the showcases and college recruiting conversations, Matt and Kurt were coaching in the same program at Winston Churchill High School. Matt worked on the boys basketball side, while Kurt coached on the girls side.
