    Tomasz Kosowski Trial Final Day | GUILTY Verdict & Death Penalty Phase

    The Tomasz Kosowski murder trial reached a dramatic conclusion on Day Seven as the former Florida plastic surgeon delivered his own closing argument before Judge Joseph Bulone returned a guilty verdict for first-degree murder in the death of attorney Steven Cozzi. Prosecutors argued that the surveillance footage, blood and DNA evidence, digital searches, cellphone data and Kosowski's movements established a carefully planned murder. Kosowski, representing himself, argued that the State's theory was physically impossible, challenged whether prosecutors had proven Cozzi's death and questioned whether evidence could have been planted. After closing arguments, Judge Bulone found Kosowski guilty of first-degree murder. The case then immediately moved into the death-penalty phase, where Kosowski again waived a jury and continued representing himself. The judge found two aggravating circumstances proven beyond a reasonable doubt: that the murder was committed for financial gain and that it was cold, calculated and premeditated. He rejected the State's claim that the murder was especially heinous, atrocious or cruel because the evidence did not establish exactly how Cozzi died. No sentence was imposed that day.     Tomasz Kosowski Murder Trial Day 6 | State Rests & Kosowski Calls No Witnesses

    Day Six of the Tomasz Kosowski murder trial brought the prosecution’s case against the former Florida plastic surgeon to a dramatic conclusion in the murder of attorney Steven Cozzi, whose body has never been recovered. Cozzi’s parents testified that they have not seen or heard from their son since March 21, 2023. Lead Detective Colin Bolton then walked the court through the investigation, searches of Kosowski’s properties, his detention, the remote dumpster and the extensive landfill search. Representing himself, Kosowski challenged the prosecution’s theory that he could have moved Cozzi’s approximately 195-pound body in a Gorilla Cart and lifted it into his truck. He even requested a courtroom demonstration involving a person inside the cart, but Judge Joseph Bulone denied the request. The State’s final witness was Medical Examiner Dr. Jon Thogmartin, who testified that although Cozzi’s remains have never been recovered, he believed Cozzi was dead and that the circumstances were consistent with homicide. Prosecutors then rested after presenting 56 witnesses. Kosowski’s motion for a judgment of acquittal was denied.
