'The SoulCycle Rabbi' — with Sammy Kanter

If I asked you what SoulCycle and Synagogue have in common, you might look at me like I’m crazy. One is a dark candlelit room with loud music and sweaty people moving in unison to the beat of the music. The other involves pews and prayers and your fanciest clothing. But these two seemingly random experiences actually share a lot more than meets the eye… They share similar outcomes. When done properly — with intention — you should walk out of both SoulCycle and Synagogue with a reinforced sense of connection and community. A spark that makes you want to come back, that makes you feel good, more whole, and eventually even transformed. The idea that Judaism — an ancient tradition filled with wisdom — can be applied to modern living in a way that can be as transformational as SoulCycle, is one of the realizations that set today’s guest on the path to becoming a Rabbi. Sammy Kanter is a rabbinical student on a mission to find out why Judaism is relevant in this day and age. In today’s episode, we discuss how we can all ‘own’ our Judaism and make it feel authentic, Sammy shares tips for someone who might be struggling to connect, and how he’s taking his outreach to thousands on Tik Tok. How to Make Creativity Your Superpower & a Problem-Solving Technique You NEED to be Using

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a professional artist? I don’t think I’m alone when I say that the first thought that comes to my mind is that fantasy about artists as those dreamy, idealistic, creative types eating a cheese board with one hand and painting with the other while looking out at a French sunset. Lucky for us, today’s episode completely smashes every single one of those stereotypes as I speak with Michal Berman.   Michal is the owner and operator of Tel Aviv Art Studio. Located right in the heart of Tel Aviv, her art studio provides everything from lessons and workshops to group or individual art therapy, art parties, or just a space for anyone to create freely. Michal is an artist, teacher, entrepreneur, she really does it all. I speak with Michal about the benefits of art therapy, how she balances being an artist and a businesswoman, and how she uses creativity as her superpower in the business world. Michal explains how she used outside-the-box thinking to keep her brick and mortar business thriving during pandemic times and we even talk about how she is secretly a matchmaker, pairing up couples who she thinks might hit it off during her art classes. Plus, if you listen right until the end, Michal actually walks us through the step-by-step art therapy technique she personally uses to solve problems. Let’s do this! Happy Listening!   Let's keep the conversation going! 🌿 Find me at: SPROUT PODCAST INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/sproutthepodcast/ SHAKED'S INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/dailyshaked/ Connect with Michal: TEL AVIV ART STUDIO:  https://www.telavivartstudio.com  INSTAGRAM https://www.instagram.com/telavivartstudio/   Support the podcast by:  🙏🏼 Sharing this episode with friends!  ⭐️ Leaving a rate and review  🔔 Subscribing to be notified of all the latest episodes!

Personalizing Passover: How You Can Use Modern Elements to Enrich the Seder Traditions

We’ve all used, or at least seen, that timeless yellow and red Haggadah year after year at our Passover seder. So did Pearl Richman! But each year, Pearl would stick little notes, reminders and news clippings to make the seder a little bit more her own. That is, until she realized, all these modern rituals and additions could make it into a Haggadah of her own! That’s why Pearl, and her daughter Maxie, who are by no means Jewish scholars, set out to modernize the Passover Haggadah you’ve been using for decades by curating The Haggadah Collective.  Pearl and Maxie call themselves passionate and dedicated students of kindness, love, and inclusivity. Their Haggadah is infused with a chic, contemporary aesthetic and is grounded in the concepts of diversity, equality, and acceptance. Plus, their love of kids inspired them to create a vibrant companion Haggadah, called "Hug-It-Out," which is a love letter to the children who sit at our Passover table and learn about Judaism from us with great curiosity and awe.  As I speak with Pearl this week, she shares all about the thought process behind the creation of The Haggadah Collective and how this can serve as inspiration for you to take the passover rituals into your own hands and infuse a unique mix of tradition and modernity into your seders. Are you ready? “God Loves Boudoir”: Feminism, Sexuality & Modesty in the Orthodox Community — with boudoir photographer Rebecca Sigala

When we think of sexy photos, usually the image of an Orthodox Jewish woman doesn't come to mind. In fact, that would seem totally taboo. That's why it may come as a surprise that a woman who covers her hair, doesn't expose her knees or shoulders, and follows the laws of tzniut (modesty), would bare it all for a boudoir shoot. But for boudoir photographer, Rebecca Sigala, it's not a surprise at all. Though women who follow strict laws of modesty steer clear of any sexual suggestiveness in their public life, it would be a mistake to assume Orthodox women don't embrace sexuality in their private life. All women want and need to feel sexy, which is why Rebecca's goal with intimate photography is to empower and celebrate women and their bodies.  In this episode, I speak with Rebecca about the power of boudoir photography for self-love and acceptance, how she paved the way for this art-form in her Orthodox community, and how she believes we should teach the next generations about modesty and sexuality.
