    #74 You are not the worst thing you've ever done

    What if the worst thing a child has ever done… isn’t who they are? In this episode of Education Monsters, we sit down with Nicholas, founder of the National Center for Restorative Justice. Nichols is an educator, former Coast Guard member and lifelong advocate for meaningful change in our schools. Based in Seattle, Nicholas brings up topics around discipline, compassion, empathy, parenthood and lived experience to a conversation that challenges how we think about mistakes, punishment and sanctions. Nicholas believes that being human means messing up. A lot. And instead of shaming, labeling or punishing kids into silence or meaningless chores, we should be teaching something far more valuable: repair. What does it mean to take accountability, even when our intentions weren’t malicious? How do we remove the taboo around making mistakes? What if lighting a trash can on fire became a moment to teach about responsibility and the real dangers of fire, rather than just handing down punishment that teaches nothing? We explore how restorative justice invites dialogue and reflection instead of fear-based consequences. We talk about why second chances matter. Why conflict resolution is a lifelong skill. And why kids need space to practice saying a strong, confident, “No. I don’t want you to touch me that way.” Learning to defend your boundaries in childhood doesn’t just protect you from bullying, it prepares you to refuse toxic relationships, unpaid overtime at work and other emotional/physical abuses in adulthood. This episode challenges us to rethink blind obedience and outdated educational models. Nicholas reminds us that we are not defined by the worst thing we’ve ever done. We are complex and capable of growth. As parents, educators, teachers and community members, we have the power to reposition ourselves and our systems toward accountability, compassion and learning.     #73 Ashlyn's pilot story

    Ashlyn is an international airline pilot from South Florida whose journey to the flight deck started long before she ever touched the controls. Inspired by her dad’s constant traveling and the pilot friends who kept telling her how incredible the job was, Ashlyn’s curiosity about flying took off early. For her 17th birthday, her dad surprised her with flight lessons. She was terrified at first… and immediately hooked. While earning a biology degree in college, Ashlyn kept flying, balancing textbooks with time in the sky. After graduation, she made the bold decision to finish her flight hours, working as a flight instructor to build experience. That dedication paid off when she was hired by a regional airline, and today she flies international routes for a major airline. Ashlyn shares what pilot training is really like, the unique atmosphere and teamwork among flight crews, and how she manages jet lag, sleep, and life across time zones. Most of all, her gratitude for this career shines through and I’m genuinely thankful to have met her and to share her story with you.     Jojo revient nous présenter une création qui bouscule nos repères : le planisphère carré. Une carte du monde pas comme les autres, qui propose une manière totalement nouvelle de regarder la Terre.     #70 Le jeu de cartes où l'union fait la force

    Dans cet épisode, on part à la rencontre de Jojo, un créateur passionné qui a décidé de bousculer un objet aussi ancien que familier : le jeu de cartes. Avec Nuées, il revisite le traditionnel jeu de 54 cartes pour en faire une expérience poétique, politique et profondément actuelle. Exit les piques, carreaux, trèfles et cœurs ! Ici, quatre animaux voyageurs prennent leur envol : Hirondelle, Papillon, Saumon et Caribou pour incarner un univers où la nature et la coopération sont au centre du jeu. Les figures traditionnelles laissent place à trois nouvelles forces : Équipe, Foule et Peuple, célébrant l’entraide plutôt que la hiérarchie.     #69 Gratitude as a way of life

    Aashiyan just radiates good energy. She’s originally from India and now living in Canada, with a background in biotechnology, so she totally gets how important biology and science are. But what makes her special is how she blends that scientific mindset with a deep sense of spirituality, gratitude, and energy healing. Aashiyan shares how she learned to find peace by changing her perspective, like when she was younger and really didn’t like one of her teachers. Instead of holding onto that negative feeling, she started wishing him well… and something shifted. Her anxiety eased, and she started growing into a calmer, wiser version of herself. Our conversation is full of warmth, reflection, and positivity. Aashiyan talks about life, energy, and how a little gratitude can honestly change everything.
