    Episode 6 - Rural Psychiatry

    "It's easier to work in a rural setting... relationships gets built up, you're not picking up the phone to talk to a stranger. That makes a whole difference. As a specialist, physicians are grateful to have you in this setting. You can really learn your population and develop your service as you would like." Episode 5 puts rural psychiatry in center stage, guided by Dr. Rosemary Abu, a General Adult Psychiatrist with a special interest in Old Age Psychiatry. She is currently practicing in Smithers, and completed her residency in Ireland. Dr. Abu thoughtfully reflects on the ups and downs of practicing psychiatry in a rural environment, and the unique challenges that it poses.  The host of this episode is Polly Ng.     Episode 5 - Consultation Liaison

    "You know when you've made a difference in a patient's life. You know you've made a huge difference". In episode 4, Consultation Liaison,  Dr. Carole Richford guides us in a discussion that's as colourful as her own journey through psychiatry. With a  career that includes consultation-liaison, addictions, psycho-oncology, inpatient and outpatient, sub-specialty clinics, as well as teaching, Dr. Richford provides an informed perspective on the future of psychiatry and its current issues.     Episode 2 - Assertive Community Treatment and Outreach Psychiatry

    Dr. Peter Wang takes us through his journey working in Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams and pinpoints the essence of ACT psych: creativity, rapport, and a team oriented focus in an outreach setting. Dr. Wang also discusses the reality of burnout in the field, and how we can cope with it. We're invited to explore the ways ACT can enrich the lives of patients it serves, and encouraged as students to rotate through an ACT psych elective with him through the University of British Columbia, with which he is affiliated.
