Drake Maye vs Caleb Williams Headlines NFL Week 7 as Rams Implode & Chargers Hit Rock Bottom

Drake Maye vs Caleb Williams Headlines NFL Week 7 as Rams Implode & Chargers Hit Rock Bottom The 2026 NFL season has officially reached the point where preseason expectations are getting dragged behind the stadium and beaten with a shovel. This week on Missing the Point, Dave, Matt, Mike and Zach go division by division through the latest NFL Week 7 Power Rankings, break down the biggest stories in football, and then spend a huge chunk of the show on the game that actually matters around here: Chicago Bears vs. New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. At the top, the San Francisco 49ers remain No. 1 at 6-0, the Kansas City Chiefs continue doing the deeply annoying Chiefs thing where winning barely qualifies as news anymore, and Matt has finally acknowledged that the undefeated Minnesota Vikings might, in fact, exist. Then there are the Los Angeles Rams. A roster that looks like somebody disabled the salary cap in Madden is sitting at 2-4 after losing at home to an Arizona Cardinals team we had already killed, buried and emotionally moved on from. Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Aaron Donald, Myles Garrett — apparently none of that matters if Sean McVay looks like he’s seeing ghosts on the sideline. We debate whether the Rams can still recover, whether McVay is losing his grip, and whether No. 19 in the power rankings is somehow still too generous. The other Los Angeles team is even more entertaining. The Chargers are 0-6, Jim Harbaugh looks increasingly haunted, and Justin Herbert has officially reached the stage of his career where every Sunday feels like another piece of evidence for the prosecution. We revisit just how badly we overestimated the Chargers, why Herbert has regressed, and why crossing them off weeks ago might have been the easiest decision we’ve made all season. We also dig into the Seattle Seahawks, who are somehow still hanging around the top 10 at 3-3 despite Sam Darnold looking increasingly lost. Is Matt giving the defending champions too much respect? Are the Jaguars, Packers, Panthers, Lions or Steelers already more deserving? And how much should last season matter in a weekly NFL power ranking? Then Philadelphia enters the chat. The Jalen Hurts blood-clot situation sparks a serious conversation about player safety, the Eagles organization, the NFL’s handling of medical issues and just how insane the entire London sequence looks in hindsight. Nobody is making light of Hurts’ health — but the idea of a franchise quarterback dealing with a clot issue, playing overseas and flying internationally becomes one of the wildest discussions of the episode. From there, we take a flamethrower to the NFC East. The Cowboys remain one of football’s greatest annual experiments in wasting talent. The Eagles are falling apart. Washington is already crossed off. Somehow the New York Giants might actually win this division, which feels less like a prediction and more like evidence that the NFC East has become a controlled substance. The NFC South isn’t much more normal. Carolina continues to become legitimately interesting, Bryce Young is earning some respect, Atlanta looks better than its record, New Orleans remains difficult to understand, and Tampa Bay finally gets the treatment it has been asking for. The Buccaneers are officially added to the Missing the Point cross-off list. Over in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs remain inevitable, but Kenneth Walker has changed the shape of their offense enough that even Mike is willing to give a running back credit — a genuinely historic moment for this podcast. We also revisit the Pittsburgh Steelers, because Matt continues refusing to rank them like a 4-2 football team. Aaron Rodgers is playing annoyingly well, Mike McCarthy has built a system he knows, and Dave keeps asking how long Matt can keep Pittsburgh sitting at No. 16 before it officially becomes a personal vendetta. And then we get to the main event: Patriots vs. Bears. Drake Maye vs. Caleb Williams. Mike Vrabel vs. Ben Johnson. New England vs. Chicago. Both teams are 4-2. Matt has New England ranked No. 3. Chicago is No. 7. Vegas has the Bears favored at home. So naturally, things get personal. We go deep on Drake Maye’s turnaround, Caleb Williams’ return from injury, New England’s offensive-line problems, Chicago’s league-leading rushing attack, the Bears’ third-down defense, the Patriots’ ability to pressure without overcommitting, Christian Gonzalez, Luther Burden, Kyler Gordon, Josh McDaniels, Dennis Allen and how both coaching staffs will try to attack the other team’s biggest weakness. Can New England protect Maye long enough to exploit Chicago’s vulnerability to explosive passing plays? Can the Bears establish the run and force the Patriots into a game Ben Johnson wants to call? Can Caleb Williams stay patient against a defense that won’t give him the clean pockets Atlanta did? And, most importantly, which fanbase gets to become completely unbearable for the next seven days? The guys make their Bears vs. Patriots predictions, revisit the Caleb Williams vs. Drake Maye draft debate, and agree on one thing: this game has two possible outcomes. Either it’s one of the best Thursday Night Football games of the season… or it ends 9-6 and ruins everyone’s evening. If you’re looking for NFL Week 7 Power Rankings, 2026 NFL Power Rankings, Bears vs Patriots predictions, Caleb Williams vs Drake Maye, New England Patriots news, Chicago Bears analysis, Thursday Night Football predictions, NFL playoff picture, 49ers power rankings, Rams collapse, Chargers 0-6, Steelers Aaron Rodgers, Seahawks rankings, Jalen Hurts Eagles news, NFL contender rankings, NFL playoff predictions, or NFL teams eliminated from playoff contention, this is your episode. #NFL #NFLPowerRankings #NFLWeek7 #NFL2026 #NFLPlayoffs #NFLPlayoffPicture #NFLPredictions #MissingThePoint #ChicagoBears #Bears #DaBears #CalebWilliams #NewEnglandPatriots #Patriots #DrakeMaye #BearsVsPatriots #ThursdayNightFootball #TNF #49ers #SanFrancisco49ers #BrockPurdy #KansasCityChiefs #ChiefsKingdom #MinnesotaVikings #SKOL #LosAngelesRams #Rams #Chargers #JustinHerbert #SeattleSeahawks #PittsburghSteelers #AaronRodgers #PhiladelphiaEagles #JalenHurts #DallasCowboys #NFLNews #FootballPodcast #SportsPodcast Support the show ----------- https://www.MTPshow.com Our Social Media https://linktr.ee/MTPSHOW ----------- Hosts: Mike Marcangelo, Dave Clarke Producer: Craig D'Alessandro, Dave Clarke Inquiries: Craig@mtpshow.com

NFL Week 6 Power Rankings: Drake Maye & Patriots SURGE, Bears Collapse, 49ers Stay No. 1

The 2026 NFL season is starting to separate the contenders from the pretenders, and this week’s Missing the Point NFL Power Rankings bring arguments, overreactions, humiliations, and two more teams officially sent to the playoff graveyard. The San Francisco 49ers remain No. 1 after surviving a wild 32-29 battle with the Seattle Seahawks. Brock Purdy continues to look electric, San Francisco keeps overcoming injuries, and the 5-0 Niners are beginning to put real distance between themselves and the rest of the NFC West. Meanwhile, the New England Patriots suddenly look dangerous. After upsetting Buffalo, New England followed it up by destroying the Las Vegas Raiders 45-17, with Drake Maye throwing for 374 yards and four touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. We break down Maye’s incredible turnaround, Josh McDaniels’ role in rebuilding his confidence, whether the Patriots are ahead of schedule, and just how seriously the AFC should be taking New England. Then comes the pain. The Chicago Bears got absolutely flattened by the Green Bay Packers, 31-7, in a game that forced Dave to reconsider several weeks of optimism. Jordan Love torched Chicago’s secondary for 367 yards, Tyson Bagent struggled, and the Bears suddenly looked a lot further away from contention than they did seven days ago. With Caleb Williams expected back, Bears-Falcons becomes a massive response game. The Minnesota Vikings are still sitting at a perfect 5-0, yet Matt continues to disrespect them in the rankings. Dave argues that an undefeated team with an elite defense deserves much more credit, while Matt continues looking for reasons not to buy in. Elsewhere around the league, the Baltimore Ravens somehow survive without Lamar Jackson thanks to a ridiculous Tyler Huntley comeback, Derrick Henry turns overtime into a demolition derby, and the Pittsburgh Steelers force Matt into the deeply uncomfortable position of admitting they might actually be good. The Jacksonville Jaguars keep proving their 4-1 start is legitimate after beating Philadelphia in London. Trevor Lawrence continues to look confident, Jacksonville’s defense keeps traveling, and the Jaguars are becoming one of the most convincing contender stories in the AFC. We also debate whether the Denver Broncos belong anywhere near the top 10, what happened to the Las Vegas Raiders after their 3-0 start, whether Cincinnati is being ranked too high, and why the Buffalo Bills somehow keep winning without ever making anyone feel particularly comfortable about them. The NFC East provides this week’s finest comedy. The New York Giants and Washington Commanders finish tied 27-27 after Washington reaches potential game-winning field-goal range in overtime and then somehow allows the clock to expire before attempting the kick. It was one of the funniest endings of the NFL season, and it was enough for the Commanders to earn an immediate place on the Missing the Point Cross-Off List. The Rams also manage to turn special teams into performance art. After a brutal kicking performance in their overtime loss to Buffalo, Harrison “Thiccer Kicker” Mevis was cut less than a day later, proving once again that the NFL is a cruel business and apparently not even being built like a nose tackle can guarantee job security as a kicker. And, most importantly, the playoff graveyard gets bigger. The current Missing the Point Cross-Off List is: Los Angeles Chargers Tennessee Titans Miami Dolphins Washington Commanders Arizona Cardinals The New Orleans Saints narrowly escape execution for another week, mostly because the NFC South is such a disaster that being terrible somehow still leaves you in the divisional race. We also get into the Packers’ massive rise, the Eagles’ continued collapse, Jalen Hurts’ reluctance to attack the middle of the field, the Cowboys’ disastrous defense, Detroit quietly heating up, Atlanta being better than its record, the Rams sitting at a dangerous 2-3, and the biggest games to watch heading into NFL Week 6. If you’re looking for NFL Week 6 Power Rankings, 2026 NFL Power Rankings, Drake Maye Patriots analysis, New England Patriots news, Chicago Bears vs Packers reaction, Brock Purdy and the 49ers, Minnesota Vikings 5-0, Jacksonville Jaguars playoff predictions, NFL playoff picture, NFL Week 6 picks, or NFL teams eliminated from playoff contention, this episode has you covered. MTP Boston: Pats Back on Track? Competence is King

Forty-five points can make anybody drunk on optimism. So before New England Patriots fans start planning the Super Bowl parade route through Foxborough, we’re asking the question that actually matters: are the Patriots really back, or did they just catch the perfect moment to steamroll a bad Las Vegas Raiders defense? After a huge road win over the Buffalo Bills and a 45-point beatdown of the Raiders, the Patriots suddenly look like one of the most interesting teams in the AFC. And at the center of it all is Drake Maye, who is starting to look a whole lot more like the franchise quarterback New England hoped it had—and a whole lot less like a young QB trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube while 300-pound men chase him. We break down the Patriots’ recent surge, the Buffalo win, the Raiders blowout, and the biggest reason for optimism: Drake Maye’s development. And this isn’t just a “Drake Maye carried everybody” victory lap. New England is missing important starters across the roster, particularly in the secondary, yet the Patriots defense continues finding ways to keep teams out of the end zone. Even while allowing individual players to pile up stats, the defense held a capable Raiders offense to just 17 points. That opens up a much bigger conversation about Mike Vrabel, the Patriots defensive identity, defensive game planning, and the culture being rebuilt in New England. Sometimes the game plan is simple: sure, take your eight-yard completion. Congratulations. Frame it. Put it on the refrigerator. You’re still not getting six. Then there’s the offense. We get into the numbers behind Drake Maye’s breakout, including his rising completion percentage, improved processing, better decision-making, and the noticeable change from the quarterback we saw earlier in the season. Maye looks more comfortable, more decisive, and increasingly capable of controlling an NFL offense instead of simply surviving one. A major part of that conversation is Josh McDaniels. Has McDaniels finally found the offensive formula that maximizes Drake Maye? Are injuries weirdly forcing Maye to become a better quarterback by spreading the football around, trusting role players, working through progressions, and abandoning the idea that every possession needs to revolve around one designated WR1? Because lately, Maye isn’t hunting one receiver. He’s reading the field. And that distinction could be enormous for the long-term future of the New England Patriots offense. Then we turn toward Patriots vs. Jets at Gillette Stadium, what a convincing New England win should actually look like, and whether Patriots fans should expect dominance—or simply be happy stacking AFC East wins while the team continues developing. And because no NFL discussion can remain peaceful for more than 20 minutes, we eventually stumble directly into one of football’s favorite arguments: How much should an NFL contender actually value a running back? Pay the star? Draft another one? Build the offensive line and convince yourself any reasonably athletic mammal can average 4.2 yards per carry? Naturally, nobody agrees. If you’re following the New England Patriots, Drake Maye, Mike Vrabel, Josh McDaniels, the AFC East standings, Patriots injury news, Patriots vs Jets, NFL playoff race, NFL power rankings, or Drake Maye’s development into a potential franchise quarterback, this episode is for you. Subscribe to Missing the Point, send this to the Patriots fan in your life who is already Googling February hotel prices, and leave us your Patriots vs. Jets score prediction. Power Rankings Post NFL Week 4: The Tom Brady Mouth Kiss Episode

Five teams are sitting at 0-4, which means the 2026 NFL season has already reached one of our favorite annual traditions: deciding whether it is socially acceptable to bury a team’s playoff hopes before the leaves have even changed. This week on Missing the Point, we dive headfirst into our NFL Week 5 Power Rankings, starting at the very bottom with the league’s winless teams and asking the uncomfortable question: which NFL teams can officially be crossed off from playoff contention? The Los Angeles Chargers take the heaviest fire. Justin Herbert is supposed to be one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks, but turnovers, offensive inconsistency, coaching questions, penalties, and an absolutely brutal AFC West playoff race have the Chargers staring straight into the abyss at 0-4. With the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, and Denver Broncos all occupying valuable real estate in the division, how much longer can Los Angeles pretend there is still time to turn this season around? We also put the Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, and Miami Dolphins on trial. Houston keeps losing close games and somehow still looks more competitive than its record. Tampa Bay cannot stop collecting injuries. Tennessee is searching for an offensive identity. Miami is…well, Miami is already familiar with the cross-off list. Then we work our way through the rest of the 2026 NFL Power Rankings, where things get significantly messier. Are the Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets next in line for elimination? Are the New Orleans Saints secretly worse than their record suggests? What exactly are the Washington Commanders right now? And how long are we supposed to politely nod while teams hovering around .500 insist they are “figuring things out”? The Las Vegas Raiders get a much more serious conversation this week after continuing to look competent, physical, and legitimately dangerous. Brock Bowers remains a weekly matchup nightmare, and suddenly Raiders football is forcing everyone to confront a deeply uncomfortable possibility: Las Vegas might actually be good. Then there are the Minnesota Vikings, who keep winning despite an offense that sometimes appears morally opposed to scoring touchdowns. At what point does an undefeated record outweigh every concern about quarterback play and offensive sustainability? Can an elite NFL defense drag a shaky offense deep into January? That leads directly into the Denver Broncos debate. How high should a team climb in NFL power rankings when its defense is carrying the operation? How much can an elite defense cover for offensive inconsistency? And are we giving Denver too much credit based on what we think they can become rather than what they actually are? Naturally, we also get into the Baltimore Ravens, because every Ravens conversation eventually reaches the exact same question: what happens when Lamar Jackson and Baltimore get into a one-score playoff game in December or January? The talent is obvious. The ceiling is obvious. The scar tissue is also obvious. But the centerpiece of this episode is a full New England Patriots deep dive with the MTP Boston crew. We break down Drake Maye, his confidence, his development, his turnovers, his ability to create outside structure, and whether the Patriots offense is finally beginning to find something sustainable. We dig into Josh McDaniels’ play-calling, New England’s third-down problems, offensive line pressure, protection issues, the running game, and what the upcoming Patriots vs. Raiders matchup can tell us about whether this team is actually turning a corner. Is Drake Maye becoming the quarterback Patriots fans hoped he would be? Was the win over Buffalo a genuine breakthrough or the beginning of another classic NFL overreaction cycle? And does New England actually belong anywhere near the top ten of an NFL power ranking yet? We close with rapid-fire conversations around some of the biggest NFL storylines heading into Week 5: The Seattle Seahawks vs. San Francisco 49ers matchup gives us a legitimate NFC measuring stick. The Chicago Bears suddenly look terrifyingly well coached, physical, disciplined, and capable of winning football games regardless of who is playing quarterback. And the Jacksonville Jaguars are quietly building one of the most convincing contender profiles in the NFL, with Trevor Lawrence playing efficient football and a defense that is making life miserable for opposing offenses. So if you’re looking for NFL Power Rankings Week 5, NFL playoff predictions, NFL Week 5 analysis, NFL contender rankings, NFL teams to eliminate from playoff contention, Drake Maye analysis, New England Patriots news, Chicago Bears analysis, Jacksonville Jaguars predictions, 49ers vs. Seahawks, Justin Herbert Chargers discussion, or just three people aggressively arguing about football for longer than any reasonable person should… You’re in the right place. The Weirdest Week Yet: Week 3 Power Rankings

Week 3 of the NFL season is when the “sure things” start looking shaky, the weird teams start stacking wins, and every fan base convinces itself the truth is hiding just one Sunday away. We sit down and run our latest NFL power rankings with zero mercy, starting at the bottom where some teams already feel cooked, then working upward through the messy middle where everything is still up for grabs. We cross off the Dolphins, debate whether the Patriots deserve an absolutely brutal drop, and ask the uncomfortable quarterback questions that show up when the offense looks lost. From there we hit the teams living in the 20s: the injury excuses, the stalled schemes, and the squads that feel dangerous even when their record says otherwise. We also carve out a “frisky but flawed” tier and force ourselves to pick who can actually sustain a winning season once the league adjusts. Then we get to the real fun: Cowboys respect despite late-game nonsense, the Raiders getting a proper lie detector test against the Chiefs, and a full argument about the Vikings. Are they a true contender powered by the best defense in the league, or a fragile team one offensive slip away from falling back to earth? We finish at the top with the Chiefs, Bills, and 49ers, plus a defense of Brock Purdy that’s really about what “system quarterback” even means when the tape keeps saying “good.” If you like NFL analysis that’s honest about uncertainty but ruthless about what’s on film, hit subscribe, share this with a friend who thinks your team is overrated, and leave us a review with your current top three. MTP Boston: The Patriots Panic; Maye, Vrabel and the Buffalo Horizon

The Patriots are 1-2, the vibes are rancid, and the schedule does not care. We set the scene from Jacksonville to Buffalo and ask the question every New England fan is yelling at the TV: what happened to this football team so fast? Drake Maye looks nothing like the guy people were ready to crown, the turnovers are piling up, and the offence feels like it is searching for answers on every snap. We dig into the most alarming stuff, starting with Maye’s decision making and why missing AJ Brown changes the entire shape of the attack. Then we get into the coaching tension that’s hanging over everything: if there’s real truth to Mike Vrabel stepping in on offensive calls, what does that do to Josh McDaniels’ system, the red zone plan, and the quarterback’s confidence? We also talk offensive line play, why “easy completions” matter, and how toughness and accountability land in a Boston market that has zero patience for excuses. From there we look ahead to the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen. We debate what actually counts as progress: do we need a win, or do we need a clean, physical, turnover-free game that makes the bully feel it? We close with predictions and a rapid run through Week 4 picks across the NFL. If you’re stressed about the Patriots, you’re not alone. NFL Power Rankings After Two Chaotic Weeks

September football is a stress test, and the league is already cracking. We open by digging into the rash of NFL injuries and the uncomfortable preseason question nobody can answer cleanly: are players getting hurt because the warm-up has become too soft, too short, and too staged to prepare them for real hits? We kick around realistic and not-so-realistic fixes, because the product is better when the stars are actually playing. From there, we get personal with the Caleb Williams discourse. We talk about what it means when a young quarterback shows emotion, why “toughness” arguments online are mostly performative, and how quickly a season can tilt when quarterbacks start dropping. Then we shift into our NFL power rankings and do what Week 2 forces everyone to do: overreact, correct ourselves, and admit we still don’t know who half the league really is. We also introduce our “cross-off” game, where we publicly guarantee a team won’t make the playoffs, and Miami becomes the first name on the list. We hit the Falcons’ turnovers, the Buccaneers’ sloppy situational football, the Chargers’ alarming start around Justin Herbert, and the Packers’ slide into the “we might be worried” tier. On the other end, we talk Chiefs inevitability, the Bills’ video-game offense, and why the Seahawks have the strongest case for the top spot when you factor in the whole roster. If you’re building your Week 3 takes, this one is your roadmap. MTP Boston - Maye, Maybe, Maybe Not

Three fourth quarter interceptions can turn a manageable road game into the kind of loss that sticks with you for months. We come in still annoyed about the Patriots dropping a 13-10 game to the Seahawks, not because losing to Seattle is unthinkable, but because New England had control early, got a break when the starter went down, and still found a way to give it away late. If you’ve been searching for honest Patriots talk that doesn’t dodge the ugly details, we go straight at the decisions that actually decided the game.  We dig into Drake May’s night from every angle: the numbers that look fine at first glance, the throws that cannot happen in that situation, and the bigger question of what “smart quarterback play” really means when you’re trying to win instead of just survive. We also hit the moments that snowballed the chaos, from brutal drops to the tension between taking a shot and simply living for the next down. May’s accountability matters, but we’re focused on whether the patience and situational awareness show up next week.  Then the conversation shifts to what might become an early-season problem: AJ Brown’s high ankle sprain and what it exposes about Patriots depth at wide receiver. We talk Mack Hollins, Romeo Doubs, the roster decisions fans are already second-guessing, plus the defensive bright spots that should have been enough, including the debate over how often Christian Gonzalez should shadow a true No 1. We close with a Week 2 preview and our NFL picks against the spread. Subscribe, share with a fellow Pats fan, and leave a review.
