#232 Consider the Wildflowers with Susannah B. Lewis

Our beloved friend Susannah B. Lewis (aka Whoa Susannah) is back, and this conversation takes us straight into both the deep AND shallow end, which of course is our favorite place to be. We start with the important things: what Susannah's theme song would be (hello, Michael Jackson), the easiest plants to keep alive, and her ever-growing love of gardening. But that conversation leads us somewhere much deeper. Susannah shares what she's been noticing in the wildflower fields and the vision God is growing in her heart for ministry there. We talk about Jesus' words in Luke 12 to "consider the wildflowers," what it actually means to consider something, and why so many of us may need to retrain our brains to slow down long enough to notice what God is doing around us. And because gardening will preach, we talk about seasons, pruning, and the reminder that sometimes cutting something back isn't cruel but necessary for future growth. Susannah also takes us behind the scenes of her writing life, including what she's learning through the self-publishing process and her newest book, Our Happy Valley Home, with its Christian Southern Gothic flavor. We wrap up with four biblical principles Dr. Dub believes every leader should live by, along with plenty of rabbit trails, laughter, and friendship along the way. Whether you're in a season of planting, pruning, waiting, or simply trying to notice what God is doing right in front of you, this conversation offers a gentle invitation to slow down, pay attention, and trust the work He is doing in your life. #230 Dr. Beth Madison: When Suffering Transforms Your Faith

What does it actually mean to suffer well? In this episode, we're joined by a special guest, Dr. Beth Madison, for an honest conversation about suffering and the kind of faith that is formed when God doesn't immediately change our circumstances. We often think suffering well means being strong, holding it together, or somehow finding the right attitude in the middle of something incredibly hard. But maybe suffering well has much less to do with our strength and much more to do with learning to depend on His. Beth shares how suffering hasn't simply tested her faith but has transformed it. Through weakness, limitations, tears, and seasons she never would have chosen, she has learned the truth of 2 Corinthians 12:9 in a deeply personal way: His grace really is sufficient, and His power really is made perfect in weakness. This is a conversation about discovering that God is good in the victories and in the valleys. Sometimes the most powerful testimony we have isn't that God took the hard thing away, but that we came to know Him differently because He met us there. If you are walking through suffering, loving someone who is, or simply want a faith sturdy enough for the hard places of life, this conversation is for you. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalms 139:23-24 NIV Each episode is recorded on the campus of Union University! #228 Rambling about Psalm 139

What if the very thing you're ready to move past is the place where God is doing His deepest work? This week, we're talking about what it looks like to sit in the deep things with the Lord, to slow down long enough to let Him search our hearts, reveal what's underneath the surface, and lead us instead of rushing ahead to the next thing. Psalm 139 reminds us that God already knows us completely, so why do we still pray, "Search me, God, and know my heart"? Maybe the searching isn't for Him to discover something about us. Maybe it's for us to become willing to see what He already sees. We talk about trials, perseverance, our desire for control, the discomfort of conviction, and the strange tension of waiting on God when we desperately want to know what comes next. Sometimes faithfulness looks less like figuring everything out and more like putting down the phone, quieting the noise, and giving the Lord room to speak. And because we can never stay serious for too long, you'll also hear why Angela had the best day ever, how Fran is recovering from her procedure, meet Frannie the mischief-making turkey, hear a little about our marriage retreat, and find out what podcasts we're loving lately. Our challenge this week: Don't rush the work God is doing in you. Be faithful in the little things. Stay long enough to listen. And trust that the God who searches your heart is also the God whose hand of blessing rests upon you. Each episode is recorded on the campus of Union University! #226 Welcome to Season 7!

What if the thing you're trying to hide is the very thing God wants to heal? This week on Rambling Through Everyday Life, we go from monkeys in Costa Rica and an RV adventure to engagement news, books we're loving, and a much deeper conversation about faith, vulnerability, confession, and being truly seen by God. Fran opens up about a hard season and what the Lord is teaching her about the condition of our hearts. We talk about the desire to be seen and known, the motives behind what we do, and how easily we can overlook sinful patterns because they don't seem like a big deal. But sin left unconfessed doesn't stay small. It spreads like kudzu, quietly choking out the growth happening around it until we deal with it at the root. And confession? It isn't telling God something He doesn't already know. It's inviting Him into the places that need healing. We're talking about the serious and not-so-serious parts of everyday life and how God can use all of it to get our attention, reveal what's happening in our hearts, and draw us closer to Him. We encourage you to spend some time in Psalm 139 this week! We love y'all and we are so excited to kickoff another season with you! Proverbs 16:24 "Kind words are like honey; sweet to the soul and healthy for the body." We would love to connect with you on Facebook, Instagram & TikTok!
