Episode 09: Jiwon and Jina of Billy Carter [Korea]

This is the 9th episode of the Unite Asia Podcast and this time we’re taking the podcast to Korea! We sat down with Jiwon and Jina of an AWESOME band that caught our attention over the summer - Billy Carter. The band literally JUST celebrated the release of their second album “Don’t Push Me” and in the interview, we talked about how these two amazing women got into punk rock, how they started the band, and then what are some issues they feel strongly about - issues like misogyny and gender rights in Korea. We hope you enjoy the episode! But most importantly, please go support this INCREDIBLE band! Hosted on Acast. Episode 08: Phulee of Retromist [India]

In our eight episode of the Unite Asia Podcast, we talk to Phulee the vocalist of Indian hardcore band Retromist. She hails from the Northeastern region of India and is very candid and vocal about racism that the people of the Northeast suffer from in India. This was a very educational conversation and we hope you feel the same way. Make sure to check out the links in the description for more information. Hosted on Acast. Episode 07: Hassan of Multinational Corporations [Pakistan]

In our seventh episode of the Unite Asia Podcast, we sit down with the vocalist of Pakistani grindcore band Multinational Corporations as he takes us through how he got into heavy music (metal to hardcore punk) on the streets of Lahore. Super enlightening to chat with another Pakistani and hear how different our upbringings were (He is a Pakistani who grew up in Pakistan, while I'm a Pakistani who grew up in Hong Kong). As always, please leave comments below because interactions with videos help the algorithm so our videos show up on searches, etc. Hopefully, you've noticed that with every episode we have been going male, female, male, female. We're trying our best to make sure the world knows what's up with our Asian community. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    Episode 06: Sofia [Riz's Daughter]

In our sixth episode of the Unite Asia Podcast, we interview my daughter Sofia! Why? Because. :-) Actually, it's because the person we were supposed to interview couldn't make it even with rescheduling several times. Luckily, my daughter was ready to jump right in! In this episode she talks about her favorite records, and even talks about the times I brought her out on stage when my old band King Ly Chee played in Shenzhen and Taiwan.  She says she's SUPER excited to see what comments you're all going to leave so please leave some below! Episode 05: Aca of Straight Answer [Indonesia]

In our fifth episode of the Unite Asia Podcast, we welcome who is absolutely at "legendary" status in our eyes. We invited the hilarious Aca, vocalist of legendary Indonesian hardcore band Straight Answer formed in 1996. He has a wealth of life experiences to share with the world including how a dude in Jakarta found his way to punk rock and then starting his band Straight Answer to years later running a store that is his bread and butter. He even was open enough to talk about a massive health scare that happened 4 years ago that required multiple surgeries including the removal of part of his skull - thus why he wears a helmet on stage when he performs.
