    Heritage Bazaar

Send us a text Content Warning (CW): Discrimination, Racism  'Heritage Bazaar', explores the role of ethnic grocery shops in sustaining cultural identity.  This radio documentary takes off from our previous one titled 'Kitchen Stories' that delved into the homes of a few Cork citizens to understand what dinner time looks like for them.  In 'Heritage Bazaar' we invite the multi talented and Cork native, Daniel Heaphy to accept the challenge of making chai. Through the challenge, Daniel interviews various guests to explore the importance of having access to traditional ingredients and groceries and how this helps a person hold on to their cultural identity while living in a new country.  The documentary features interviews with Asad, owner of Asian Foods, Sravan Telu who moved to Ireland one year ago to study at MTU and Banu Rekha Balaji who has lived in Ireland for two decades, is an Occupational Therapist and founder of Therapix. The interviews were held on site at Asian Foods Cork and on North Main St.  Heritage Bazaar has been created with a cross border team with one of the team members, Mugdha Chemburkar Datay Co-Producer of Heritage Bazaar based in Brazil. Daniel Clancy is the Sound Recorder and Editor of the documentary and Music from Justin Grounds - both based in Ireland. Joanna Dukkipati, founder Good Day Cork, received the Lord Mayor of Cork's Civic Award 2025 in recognition of cultural expression of migrant communities. The Heritage Bazaar documentary falls within this remit and also bridges majority communities in Ireland with the minorities through food memories.  Our radio documentary is created with generous support from CESCA & Cork City Partnership – SICAP.  CW: Discrimination, Racism  Good Day Cork is a magazine and event space dedicated to building a kind world. It's OK To Not Be Ok: Audio documentary about ending stigma of mental health

Send us a text 'It's OK To Not Be Ok'  is a documentary by Good Day Cork and Deborah Oniah, a post graduate in trauma studies at UCC. Deborah, together with three guests - Sibusisiwe Mhlope, Danielle McLaughlin and Sukhi Byrne - have an open and honest conversation about the continuing stigma and shame associated with mental health and whether we accurately assess our own mental health. This group of women discuss and share what mental health means to them, both on an individual and a cultural level, the importance of naming what you are dealing with, how they gauge their own mental health and what tips and steps they take to maintain good mental health, including seeking and accepting help, be it from friends or through various types of therapy. Danielle said, "Pretending uses up a lot of energy, energy that could be better spent on other things, like getting better." And, Sibusisiwe adds, “People must normalise listening without judgement and interruption.”  Deborah’s aim is “ to spread ‘awareness, awareness, awareness…” as “mental health is a human need…” She hopes this documentary will begin to change the narrative around mental health, especially in marginalised communities.  Danielle adds, “It is in sharing the stories of our lives that we come closer to understanding what other people might be experiencing.” Deborah also explains, “Everyone needs to get empowered. In this documentary you find many everyday tools for yourself and the people you care about and the best way to support them.” Sukhi commented, “When we normalise the reality of life’s journey - the highs and the lows - we learn that it is ok to not be ok.” 'It's OK To Not Be Ok' was created with support from Career Training Partnerships. Edited by Daniel Clancy and music by Justin Grounds. Good Day Cork is a magazine and event space dedicated to building a kind world. If you haven't yet, please follow Good Day Cork on socials.
