Others change your life. But there is one choice that affects eternity. In Matthew 7:13–14, Jesus brings us to one of the most challenging moments in the Sermon on the Mount: “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction… For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life.” After walking through Matthew 5, 6, and 7, Jesus brings His listeners to a decision. We've heard His words—but what are we going to do with them? 23.Whatup,churchfri In this message, we look at the two roads Jesus describes: one that is wide, easy, and comfortable, and another that is narrow, difficult, and leads to life. Just like choices in games can completely change your character, faction, or story, our choices have consequences. But Jesus isn't talking about a temporary decision that can simply be reset. He's talking about which road we're choosing to walk. Jesus begins with one powerful word: ENTER. It's an invitation. You don't earn your way through the narrow gate with money, accomplishments, status, or good works. Jesus is upfront that the narrow way can involve difficulty, hardship, sacrifice, and opposition. Have we given Jesus certain parts of our lives while holding onto others? Have we been sitting in church, watching services, or hanging out in Christian communities without actually walking the road Jesus calls us to walk? Jesus calls us to more than simply hearing. He calls us to follow. Maybe you've been exploring faith for a long time.
