    Millions of Afghans face expulsion from Iran and Pakistan 'back to nothing', NGO warns

    The head of humanitarian NGO the Norwegian Refugee Council is accusing the international community of turning its back on the Afghan people since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Jan Egeland is just back from a long visit to the country, where he focused particularly on the thousands of Afghans who are being sent back to Afghanistan every day from neighbouring Iran and Pakistan. He says both countries claim they can no longer continue to host Afghan communities after decades of support. But Egeland says those returning are facing a life of abandonment. He spoke to us in Perspective.

    Nick Winton, son of 'Britain's Schindler': 'For him, it wasn't about recognition'

    The son of the man often described as "Britain's Schindler" has spoken of his pride at what his late father achieved. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp, we spoke to the son of Sir Nicholas Winton, who with his small team is credited with saving the lives of 669 mostly Jewish children on the eve of World War II in what was then Czechoslovakia. His heroism went largely unrecognised for years until a 1980s British television programme, "That's Life", managed to find an entire audience of people whose lives had been saved thanks to Winton, who himself was surprised to discover that every other person there owed their lives to him. His incredible story was recently told in the film "One Life". His son Nick Winton spoke to us in Perspective.

But for now, the release of the first hostages has been welcomed in Israel. FRANCE 24's Oliver Farry spoke to Oliver McTernan, the co-founder and director of Forward Thinking, a charity that works on conflict resolution and mediation in the Middle East. He gave his take on the prospects of the ceasefire holding in Gaza.
