This podcast is all about highlighting the good in people and what individuals are doing to make an impact in this world. On today’s episode, Larry chats with his longtime friend, San Francisco Giants legendary broadcast and 13-time Emmy Award winner, Duane Kuiper. This podcast highlights Duane’s journey from growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin to dreaming of someday becoming a Major League Baseball player. Duane shares what a blessing it was to be traded from the Cleveland Indians to the San Francisco Giants, including a funny story about how he once tried to block the trade. The conversation continues as Duane reflects on how he transitioned from player to broadcaster in a single weekend— a rare path, as only a handful of play-by-play broadcasters are former players. Larry also shares with the audience that Duane has been nominated five times for Baseball’s Hall of Fame as a broadcaster, a recognition long overdue. They close out the conversation by discussing many ways Duane has supported and engaged with community-focused programs throughout his more than four decades with the Giants organization.

This podcast highlights Lisa’s involvement right from the start to get the Good Tidings Foundation formed as an official non-profit charity. The best part about their happenstance meet up was that Larry did not know of her family’s philanthropic history. The discussion continues where Lisa describes her grandmother Ann who gained renown as the “Mother of Silicon Valley”—one of the most successful developers in what has become the leading technology region in the world. Then Lisa shares how her father took his mother’s vision in combining a profitable business that equally gives back to the community. Sobrato Philanthropies mission is to partner with communities to meet immediate needs, address systemic barriers, and pursue social justice to build a more equitable and sustainable world. Her family has now gone on to sign The Giving Pledge, founded by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, where they will give away all of their wealth to charity during their lifetime.

Larry and Liam continue the conversation highlighting how a great auctioneer can be an essential element to a successful charity. Liam tells Larry he only aligns himself with charities he would personally contribute to. They wrap up the chat talking about Good Tidings and its upcoming 30th Anniversary. College brought him west to attend Stanford University with no intention of becoming a professional sports broadcaster. Once the English Major started broadcasting Stanford University games, he caught the broadcasting bug and never looked back. Dave highlights his quick rise to broadcasting Major League Baseball games for the San Francisco Giants. The podcast then turns to discuss the missions of both the Giants Community Fund and the Good Tidings Foundation and how these two great charities have partnered together for the past 25 years. On today’s episode, Larry chats with his friend, Grammy award winning singer-songwriter and Official Spokesperson of the Good Tidings Foundation, Jason Mraz. The interview takes place in Jason’s home studio located at his cleverly named property, The Mranch, where he explains what takes place on his 18 acres in Oceanside, CA. From there, Jason and Larry quickly dive into a recent benefit concert that Jason hosted highlighting eight children’s charities in San Diego County. Each of these diverse organizations performed one of Jason’s songs at the event entitled, “Kaleidoscope”, in front of thousands of guests. The conversation flows around the desire to help more under-represented and under-resourced youth. The Good Tidings Foundation and the Jason Mraz Foundation have partnered to create two amazing artistic spaces at the San Diego Young Artist Music Academy and A.R.T.S. in National City. In the coming year, GT and Jason will once again partner on an artistic makeover for another deserving charity.
