What the Based Hotline Pod has to offer, above all, is direct, unfiltered access to the mind of up-and-coming comedy virtuoso and renaissance man Luca Wilder. It’s true that Mr. Wilder is funny, but to say he is only funny would be a criminal understatement of his talent. He brings to American podcasting what it has sorely been missing: caustic, irreverent wit. But underpinning that wit is another element, a sincerity and concern that resonates with the listener, that leaves him thinking about the podcast long after he has stopped listening. I would ultimately describe Mr. Wilder’s contribution to the show as an intersection of wisdom and intelligence, of good nature and irreverence, of darkness and always light. We should all aspire to be more like Luca Wilder. 5/5.
